Was können Parallelkorpora für die Ausbildung von Übersetzern leisten? Eine Fallstudie zur Übersetzung von Anredeformen im Polnischen
Multilingual parallel corpora can be very useful resources and a practical tool in translation training. They provide translation trainees with multiple translation versions for one original to compare. By analyzing different translations of the same linguistic structure, trainees are stimulated to either mimic certain practices of professional translators or to evaluate their own translations against the background of corpus data. To illustrate the practical use of parallel corpus in translation, the paper offers a comparative study of the translation of Polish forms of address into different languages by using data from the parallel corpus ParaSol. Pronominal forms are most often adapted to the system of the target language, while nominal patterns of address of the source language are often preserved in the translation. However, Polish translators seem to deviate from this default strategy more often than translators of other languages which might be due to the peculiarities of the Polish address system.
