Benedikt Döhla untersucht in seinem Buch die Wirksamkeit der Angebote zur vorintegrativen Sprachförderung an den Goethe-Instituten Ankara, Istanbul und Izmir. Diese wurden ab September 2007 im Zuge der gesetzlichen Einführung des Sprachnachweiserfordernisses beim Ehegattennachzug eingerichtet. Die Erkenntnisse, die der Autor mittels qualitativer und standardisierter Befragungen von Mitarbeitern und (ehemaligen) Nutzern der Angebote gewonnen hat, erlauben ihm fundierte Aussagen zur Zusammensetzung der Teilnehmergruppe, Erwartungen an den Einsatz der erlernten Deutschkenntnisse und deren Gebrauch nach erfolgtem Nachzug. Dabei bewertet die Mehrheit der Befragten die Angebote zur vorintegrativen Sprachförderung in Bezug auf das Deutschlernen sowie die Vorbereitung auf das Leben in Deutschland positiv. Das Buch enthält im Anhang die Fragebögen zur Studie «Sprachkurse und Sprachprüfungen am Goethe-Institut Türkei».

This study examines the effectiveness of the pre-­integrative language training offers, introduced in September 2007, to support the introduction of the mandatory proof of language skills requirement for spouse immigration at the Goethe institutes in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir. Furthermore, detailed knowledge of their implementation and the structure of the group of participants were acquired. For this purpose, both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used.

The analysis of the political background of the introduction of the proof of language skills requirement for spouse immigration showed that to date its proponents and opponents have been opposing each other irreconcilably. Accordingly, in reference to future governments, this leaves it unclear as to whether pre-­integrative language training will continue to be offered in the future. The provision, implementation as well as particular aspects of the offers could be comprehensively described based on 17 interviews with relevant employees and teachers of the Goethe institutes. The institutes succeeded in providing examination and course offers tailored to the requirements of the group of participants. As for the provision of further additional offers, the institutes set their own priorities. In order to determine the effectiveness of the offers for pre-­integrative language skills, two standardized surveys of the participants were conducted. At the Goethe institutes, a total of 450 participants were questioned on, among other things, their expectations with regard to using the German language after immigrating to the Federal Republic of Germany.
