This volume presents a series of contributions from the XIX. International Scientific Conference on The Reform of Education and Teacher’s Training on the topic Educational Sciences in Search of Global Identity which was conceived and organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences and Heidelberg University of Education (Germany). Main topics of the conference were educational quality standards of Higher and Secondary Education. This kind of quality management relies on the acquisition of interactive competence in socialization and the educational sector. The development of these basic skills is prerequisite for achieving an identity in order to meet the challenges of our society in the coming decade.
The Ethnic Identity and Future Plans of the Multinational Student Community
After graduating from the university, some students look for their place in Lithuania, while others are attracted by the wide world. What are the grounds of such decisions? The research aims to determine how the maturity of ethnic identity of the undergraduates of Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences is connected with their future plans. The research was conducted by means of the ethnic identity measure MEIM-R and a questionnaire on the undergraduates’ future plans. The research revealed that the maturity of ethnic identity is positively related to their plans of staying in Lithuania.

While studying at schools of higher education, hardly all students clearly imagine their future. After graduation they frequently find themselves at the crossroads. What should they do next – study or work, stay in Lithuania or look for happiness abroad? After the restoration of independence, the young people of Lithuania have the whole world ahead. Now they have a possibility to choose and a significant number of young people choose their studies and, frequently, work abroad.
