This volume encompasses contributions of the 47 th Linguistics Colloquium at the University of Olsztyn (Poland) concerning the Materiality and Mediality of Linguistic Communication. In the last two decades, linguists have expressed a growing interest in the increasing presence of the media in all areas of life. Against this background, linguistic utterances in their communicative, functional, medial and cultural context have become subjects of research.

Structure and evaluation of professional competence

The professional competence is the ability of an individual to perform a job properly. A competency is a set of defined behaviors that provide a structured guide enabling the identification, evaluation and development of the behaviors in individual employees. Any competence should have a similar system of evaluation, which includes the following aspects of assessment: criterion, identification, indicator and level of competence development. There are different approaches in understanding of all these concepts by scholars including the competence itself. Criterion is the principle on the basis of which the competence is defined, classified and assessed. There are certain demands to criteria, to the effectiveness of their usage.

The system of criteria in assessing the development of any competence:

1.Personal motivation with 3 aspects: value orientation, emotional attitude, evaluation reflexivity;

2.Cognitive criterion (contents);
