Eine Begleiterin der Menschheit / A Companion of Mankind

Edited By Frank Jacob

Prostitution seems to be as old as humanity itself and is consequently not described as the «oldest profession» without cause. This anthology is an interdisciplinary, chronological and regional extensive approach to analyze the phenomenon. It provides a broad historical, sociological, cultural, and gender perspective on prostitution for the academic as well as the interested reader alike. It examines the role of prostitutes in society, the reception of the profession per se and the conditions due to which it is established.

It’s like… It’s an awful experience. You feel like you’ve been raped the first few times you do it. It’s very hard. It’s hard for people to accept, and unless you’ve got a pimp who’s throwing you out there, I… I don’t know ‘cos I only started working like on the streets in the beginning, not escorts. To me, it were awful. It were something risky. You’re risking your life. You’re risking everything, diseases, everything. It’s a big kind of risk for someone to do that.

If you work on the streets, you feel like a proper prostitute ‘cos it’s in and out. You can do up to twenty clients a day. With escorts you can do one or two. Escorts, to me, it screws your mind up more because it’s more emotional and more… You have to pretend they’re your boyfriend and touch. But someone on the...
