Oil and Politics

The domestic roots of US expansion in the Middle East

Through a political-economical as well as historical analysis, the author explains the causes and international consequences of the «oil crisis» of 1972-1974 in the USA. Beginning with Colonel Drake's first oil well in 1859, Kokxhoorn investigates the development of the US oil industry until 1975. She places her emphasis on the question of competition within the industry, particularly analyzing the role of the independent, non-integrated oil companies.
