The book is a festschrift, dedicated to Hans Dieter Kubitscheck, the former head of the Department of Southeast Asian Studies at Humboldt University, Berlin. The Editors: Thomas Engelbert and Andreas Schneider are historians working on Vietnam and Cambodia (Engelbert) resp. Laos and Thailand (Schneider). Currently they work as fellows (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter) at Humboldt University Berlin.
