Contents: Through a detailed analysis of the language of the nouvelles, this book studies the forms of Maupassant's representation of paysages, of individual psychology, of people's appearances and of objects, in the context of the established narrative themes of French Realism - The questions of sentence structure, verbal usage and of the rhetorical presuppositions of the nouvelle as a genre are particularly addressed.
