The Church's Worship

The 1979 American Book of Common Prayer in a Historical Perspective

Series:

Thaddäus A. Schnitker

The 1979 Book of Common Prayer according to the use of the Episcopal Church is the first major general revision of the official liturgical book in the Anglican Communion. This thèse d'agrégation puts the new prayer book in a historical, political, socio-economic, philosophical, and theological context ranging from the Reformation to present-day conditions. The worship of the Church is exemplified throughout this investigation by the concept and liturgy of Christian initiation (baptism, («confirmation,») eucharist).
