The Marian Principle in the Church according to Hans Urs von Balthasar

Brendan Leahy

In June 1995, Pope John Paul II issued a letter to women in which he speaks of the Marian Principle in the Church. It is a theme which von Balthasar developed throughout many of his writings. This book draws together the main elements of his thought on the subject, with chapters devoted to the place of the Marian principle in tradition and its emergence in a new way today. As well as serving as an introduction to some of the main points of von Balthasar's theology, ecclesiology and Mariology, this work results in a deeper appreciation of where the signs of the Marian principle are to be found in the life of the Church.
Contents: The Second Vatican Council and the Marian Principle in the Church as we move towards the third millennium - Elements of the Marian Principle in the Church - The triad «Mystery, Communion, Mission» as a key to reading von Balthasar's ecclesiology - Mary, Woman overshadowed by the Holy Spirit - Signs of the Marian Principle today.
