Contents: The events of A Private Matter take place in the year 1942-1943 and are linked to the Italian civil war of
1943-1945. While the war is raging in the woody hillsides of the Langhe district, Milton, the protagonist of the novel, learns
of a possible involvement of the girl he loves with his friend and fellow partisan Giorgio. Hence, Milton begins his personal
quest for the «truth» about Fulvia, the female protagonist, and Giorgio; therefore, his «private matter» takes precedence
over the «public» one, represented by the war. This book differs from many others on the «Resistance» because Fenoglio has
succeeded in giving expression to something that will always retain relevance and meaning for all of us.
