The Author: Ana Maria Araújo Freire – Nita – was born on November 13, 1933. For decades, she had been dedicated to studying
Brazilian Education History, focusing her research on the historical conditions linked to the production of illiteracy. She
holds Master’s and Doctoral degrees in education from The Catholic University of São Paulo.

in a civil ceremony in São Paulo.
Currently Nita is engaged in the creation of the «Living Paulo Freire Movement» and
in deepening her studies about Knowledge Theory according to the great educator.
