Fulya KÖKSOY KAVAK is an Assistant Professor at Batman University in Turkey in the department of International Relations. She received the bachelor’s degree in the department of international relations from Atılım Üniversity in 2010. Köksoy, who graduated with a merit-based scholarship from the Atılım University, received her MA degree in the department of international security from Police Academy. Also, she received her second MA degree in the department of international relations from Ankara University. She received her PhD in international security from Police Academy. Also she has gone on the dual doctorate in the department of international relations at Ankara University. Her interest areas are the foreign policy of China, the foreign policy of the USA, USA-PRC relations, European Union, EU-China relations, EU-Russia Relations, Energy Issue, International Security and Conflict Resolution.
Authors
Murat CİHANGİR is an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Batman University, Batman, Turkey. His main research areas are international Politics, International Security, Political Economy, American Foreign Policy and Middle East Politics. He is the author of two books “Amerikan Gücünün Geleceği” (The Future of American Power) and “ABD’nin İslam Algısı” (The Islamic Perception of the USA). Dr. CİHANGİR is also head of department of International Relations. In the faculty, he teaches InternationalRelations, International Politics, International Relations Theories.
Ömer UĞUR received his BA in International Relations from Selcuk University in 2009 and his MA degree from Brunel University in London in 2011, with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education. He started his PhD at Surrey University in England in 2012 and completed it at Fatih University in 2016. In 2014, he did a three-month doctoral dissertation research at Agder University (Norway). He works as an Assistant Professor in Gümüşhane University. He works on the foreign policy of the European Union and has written articles on this subject in English and Turkish.
Emre DEMİR graduated from Ankara University with a BA degree in Economics in 2007 and with a MA degree in International Relations in 2010. He received his second MA degree in International Politics and East Asia from the University of Warwick in 2014. Finally, he completed his PhD in International Relations at Middle East Technical University in 2019. As part of his PhD studies, in the period from 1 September 2017 to 15 July 2018 he has worked as a visiting researcher at the Peking University, PRC. Emre Demir currently works at TED University. ←11 | 12→His research interests are Chinese politics and foreign policy, Chinese intellectual debates, East Asian political economy and theories of hegemony.
Birol ERKAN is an Associated Professor of department of economics at Uşak University in Turkey. He received his doctorate in department of international economics at Manisa CelalBayar University in Turkey. His works areas are international economics, international trade, export competitiveness, comparative advantages and logistics.
Sıla TURAÇ BAYKARA is Assistant Professor in the department of International Relations in Izmir Demokrasi University, Turkey. She received the bachelor’s degree in the department of International Relations and the EU from Izmir University of Economics in 2006. She received her Master’s Degree in the field of European Affairs from Lund University, Sweden. She completed her PhD from the department of Political Science and International Relations in Yeditepe University, Turkey. Her research areas are foreign policy analysis of the EU, Russia and Turkey. Besides, she has written several articles on EU-Russia energy relations.
Murat TINAS received his PhD in Area Studies at the Middle East Technical University in 2016. His PhD dissertation title is Sectarian Groups as Sub-state Foreign Policy Actors: The Case Study of Lebanon. He studied Arabic in Jordan during his graduate studies and also worked as an affiliate researcher at the Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies, American University of Beirut. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Security Sciences at the Turkish National Police Academy. He teaches “Geopolitics of the Middle East”, “Politics in Lebanon”, “Radicalism, Violence and Terrorism” and “Intelligence in International Relations”. His major academic interests include Lebanon, Syria, foreign policy analysis and the Middle East politics in addition to a minor interest in Intelligence Studies.
Enis PORAT is a PhD candidate in International Relations at Cyprus International University, where he works as research fellow at the Center for Cyprus and Mediterranean Studies. Porat holds BA (hons) in Political Science and International Relations from Middle East Technical University (2015) and M.Phil. in Race, Ethnicity, Conflict (Sociology) from the University of Dublin, Trinity College (2017). Porat is a member of the executive board of Siyasal Bilimler Topluluğu (Political Sciences Association) and is contributing to the monthly Newsletter of Cypriot News prepared by Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung, Cyprus Office. Porat’s research interests include Identity and Conflict Studies, Migration Studies and Political Participation.
Ebru KÜÇÜKŞENER is a PhD candidate at International Relations Program at Cyprus International University (CIU) where she works as research fellow at the Center for Cyprus and Mediterranean Studies. She has received her undergraduate (2012) and master (2014) degrees from the same department. She is a member of the executive board of Political Science Association since May 2017 and works as a research assistant at CIU since 2012. Her research interest includes Migration and Identity studies, Political Culture, Cyprus Problem and De facto States.
İlker Salih EBREM works as a Dr. at Siirt University since 2013. He has received his undergraduate (2010) and master (2013) degrees from the same department. He graduated as a PhD candidate at International Relations Program at Uludağ University. His research interest includes Turkish Foreign Policy, Middle East and International Security.
Ayşe ÖZCAN is a Professor of Political Science and Public Administration in Turkey and adjunct faculty member at Michigan State University (MSU), USA. She graduated from Inonu University, Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in 2001 (Turkey). In 2004, she received her MA degree, specializing in housing policies, and she received her PhD degree in the field of urbanization and environmental issues from the same University in 2008 with a research on environmental impacts on urban form. She completed her postdoctoral training in ecological planning in 2012 at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, MSU, USA. Her research has been supported by Turkey’s National Science Foundation. Her research and teaching interests are focused on ecological planning, urban policies, green economy, sustainable development, renewable energy, climate change and public policy. Her current research focuses on renewable energy practices and climate change policy in the USA within the context of urban energy planning.
Serap Pelin TÜRKOĞLU graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Industrial Engineering in 2007. In 2010, she received her master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the same university and faculty. She completed her PhD in Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Business Administration in 2016. She is currently working as Assistant Professor at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Şereflikoçhisar Berat Cömertoğlu Vocational School. She works in the field of numerical methods and has studies in this field.
Bruno MENDELSKI received his BA in International Relations from Unilasalle University Center in 2009 and his MA degree from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre in 2012, with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education. He started his PhD at Brasilia University in Brazil in 2017. Further, Mendelski was Katip-Turkish Communication Program for Public Officials and Academic Staff-Fellow (2018–2019). He was also Visiting Doctoral Student at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at University of İstanbul (2018–2019). He works as an assistant professor in University of Santa Cruz do Sul since 2012. He works on Islamophobia, Western-Muslims Relations and terrorism, and has written articles and chapters in books on this subject in English and Portuguese.
Sadullah ÖZEL is an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Batman University, Batman, Turkey. He worked as a lawyer for 13 years under the Batman ←13 | 14→Bar Association and he is still working as a mediator. His main research areas are international law, human rights, public law, constitutional law and security. He is author of “Mülkiyet, Kamulaştırma ve Gerçek Karşılık Hakkı” (Property, expropriation and just compensation right) entitled book. He has written numerous articles in different areas of public law. Dr. ÖZEL is also head of department of International law. In the faculty, he teaches International law, Human Rights, Constitutional Law and Security.
Elif Tuğçe BOZDUMAN graduated from Balikesir University with a BA degree in Economics in 2014 and she graduated from Usak University with an MA degree in Economics in 2018. She has been pursuing her PhD in Economics at Usak University since 2018. Her research interests are international economics, export competitiveness, specialization and comparative advantages.
Aşkın İnci SÖKMEN ALACA graduated from İstanbul University, the department of International Relations in Faculty of Economics. Then she continued her post graduate study at Bosporus University Social Science Institute, Politics and International Relations Department. In there she wrote a master thesis on “Transboundary waters in the Middle East”. She completed her PhD from Turkish Military Academy Defense Institute, International Security and Terrorism program. Her PhD thesis is “Countering Terrorism Ideologically: The PKK Terrorist Organization”. She has been working at İstanbul Arel University, the department of English International Relations since 2013. In addition she gave lectures at İstanbul Tuzla Naval Academy International Relations Department during 2013–2015 years. She works as an Associate Professor at İstanbul Arel University in Turkey. Her main study areas are international security, terrorism and counter terrorism, women and terrorism, new emerging technologies and national defense, space on international security and China.
With the end of the Cold War, the bipolar world order formed on the axis of East and West Blocks came to an end and the international system entered an important process of change and transformation. At this point, the international system, which has a tendency towards unipolarity under US leadership, has evolved into a multipolar structure over time. In this context, especially with the 2000s, it is seen that many global and regional actors come to the forefront within the system. On the other hand, the phenomenon of globalization, which is depicted as the process of change and transformation, briefly began to make itself felt in the 1980s and reached the peak in the 1990s following the end of the Cold War, manifests itself in many different fields from economy to politics, from environment to socio-culture and from technology to security. Globalization, which is felt in the areas separated from each other causes positive effects, it also make a road for many problems. Within this framework, it is obvious that the relations developed in the axis of global and regional powers, the policies pursued by them, the problems and issues that are vital for international system are somehow intertwined and there is a mutual interaction in the global system. From this point of view, the relations between the global and regional powers, the policies of them and the problems and issues that are important in global politics are analyzed by the academicians who are experts in their fields.
