Foreword

September 11 could be pinpointed as a beginning of a new era in Americans life. “Homeland Security” in the domestic and foreign policies of the United States of America assumed prime importance, ranging from legitimate defense to global paranoia.

Mr. Donald Trump in that perspective was the culmination point of a trend towards “aggressive protectionism” in Washington’s international relations.

What affects the states certainly changes the world affairs.

As Washington, under Trump, formulated new reflexes; all nations both in the East and the West exposed a realpolitik a la Trump in their foreign policies.

Understanding and elaborating reasonable responses Trump’s new America became the worlds’ new problematique.

This book, thus, is an intellectual effort, undertaken by experts in their fields to comprehend United States in recent times.

In other words, the main aim of this book is to evaluate US foreign policy during the Trump era and its ultra-nationalism within the context of its influence on the major actors and regions at the international level. The authoritarian dimension of the Trump administration’s policy will be the supportive element of the framework of this work.

We want to thank to everyone on the Peter Lang Publishing team so much and special thanks to Esra Bahsi, she really helped us so much. We also want to thank the Peter Lang production editor Anjanadevi and team.

It is also true that there is no natural ending to this study, yet. New dimensions could be added to our story. The events in US are moving so quickly nowadays in terms of Trump’s authoritarianism, it is possible that anything this book could examine will be changed by the time it is printed. It is also quite difficult thinking about a focus that wouldn’t be different in a few months when the book is printed such as whether Trump would declare war on Iran or whether he would be charged with crimes and removed from the White House. Either question would change everything, but there is no way to know whether either of these, or a dozen other things, will happen. There is so much to be undetermined in the next few months, that it is not easy to consider where to effectively focus.

Despite all the natural shortcomings we hope that this book will serve as guide in understanding Trump and US foreign policy.
