Zusammenfassung
During the first decade of the fourteenth century, the Dominican theologian Meister Eckhart gave two sermons and two lectures on Ecclesiasticus chapter 24, probably at a provincial chapter of the Dominican Order in Saxony soon after his first period as magister in Paris from 1302‒1303. Eckhart preached in both Latin and German; these texts were in Latin. The Sermones et Lectiones were included in the third section of Eckhart’s Opus tripartitum with other exegetical and homiletical works, were edited during his lifetime, and exhibit a close relationship in topic and teaching to his Parisian Questions given while in Paris, as well as his Exposition of Wisdom, his commentary on the Gospel of John, and other works. Ecclesiasticus 24 is a praise of Wisdom, and Eckhart focuses on verses 23, 27, and 29‒31 “Ego quasi vitis fructificavi suavitatem odoris,” “Spiritus meus super mel dulcis, ubi supra, et Hereditas mea super mel et favum,” and “Qui edunt me, adhuc esuriunt.”
