Summary

Amandine Postec’s study explores the work of the thirteenth-century Franciscan theologian known in English as Matthew of Aquasparta. It is based largely on his quodlibets, the written summaries of his views on controversial matters in theology and philosophy originally presented orally before other learned men. Typically these took place at universities or other studia, like those of the Franciscan and the Dominican orders. The author intends to follow up the study under review here with a full edition of Matthew’s quodlibetal texts.
