Conference Report

The International Symposium on the Retrospective and Prospective of Global Chinese Music Research, convened at Nanjing Normal University’s School of Music from November 4 to 5, 2023, stands as a unique moment in the evolving discipline of Chinese music research. This international event, aligned with the global launch of The Oxford Handbook of Music in China and the Chinese Diaspora, brought together over 200 scholars from diverse geographical, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds, participating both in person and virtually. The symposium provided an interdisciplinary platform, fostering dialogue on the historical trajectories, contemporary currents, and prospective horizons of Chinese music research within an increasingly globalized scholarly ecosystem.
