Abstract It is well known that French, one of the official languages of Belgium, is spoken by the about four million inhabitants of Wallonia and Brussels. Less well known is the existence of regional languages of Roman origin. The present text presents these Belgian Roman languages from a historical, linguistic and sociolinguistic perspective and gives some reference works.
