Edited By Daniela Pietrini and Kathrin Wenz

Abstract: According to the media and to several experts, some of the European countries – Spain among others – have been deeply affected by the economic crisis with which the EU has been, is and will continue to be confronted. In this context, economists and politicians generally use terms like depression, deflation, cyclical unemployment in excess. These notions, all of which are negatively connoted, are characteristic of the discourse of the economic crisis. Nevertheless, the negative image which is drawn from the crisis seems to be accompanied by a kind of counter-discourse which tries to emphasize the positive side of the economic situation: in accordance with the motto “the crisis is a chance” there are more and more discussions about how to solve the economic problems and how to deal with policy challenges in order to progress beyond the crisis. Correspondingly, the work programme of Eurofound, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, aims to identify possible ways out of the European crisis. On the basis of this programme, which is inter alia available in French and Spanish, the present article has the specific object of highlighting the common...
