Dieser Sammelband zeichnet die Konstituierung und erste Arbeitsphase der Forschungsstelle für Aramäische Studien nach. Die Aufsätze gehen aus unterschiedlichen Veranstaltungen hervor. Sie spiegeln die Forschungsinteressen der aramäischen Initiatoren wieder, die im Vergleich zu den traditionellen syrischen Forschungen in Deutschland neue inhaltliche Themen insbesondere aus Geschichte, Soziologie und Politikwissenschaft beleuchten. Prominente Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler sowie junge Autorinnen und Autoren bearbeiten Themen von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart. Viele Beiträge wurden von Aramäern verfasst. Der Band möchte zur Weiterentwicklung der syrischen Studien und zu ihrer Verankerung in neuen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen beitragen.

The cultural discourse in folk proverbs with words referring to food and nutrition in the Arabic dialect of Āzaẖ

Abstract: The Arabic dialect of Āzaẖ in the Tur Abdin preserves a variety of proverbs connected with food, eating and nutrition. The essay collects and analyses them. The author puts a special focus on the importance and relevance of bread in this Arabic culture.

Proverbs are the treasure of folk literature and the quintessence of struggle and experiences of many generations. Preserved in memory, they reflect the collective wisdom, thought and attitudes, ideas and characteristic vision and customs and beliefs. They are the faithful illustration of the virtues and vices of the community members, the component of personality, determinants of identity and culture and the echo and sign of the relationship with time. Thanks to the concise and economical wording and the ease and profoundness, proverbs pass as the most popular device – a pure rhetoric is rebounded in them. Their meaning is not dependent on the level of civilization development as every ethnic group has its own characteristic proverbs organically related to its history, geography and living conditions. Because the hunting of food and the preparation of aliments and meals are the most important human needs and take much time particularly among the village inhabitants, it is evident that this sphere of life must also have its reflection in folk proverbs.
