Der Schulvertrag 1962 und die Diözesanerrichtungsverträge
Catholic private schools and religious education have a long tradition in Austria. The school contract from 1962, negotiated between the Republic of Austria and the Vatican, replaced Article VI of the Austrian Concordat of 1933/34. The most important provision of the school contract was the financial compensation of teachers at a level of 60 percent. In 1971, the school contract from 1962 was amended so that since then teacher fees in public private schools have been paid completely by the state.
