This volume presents a series of contributions from the XXIst International Scientific Conference on «The Reform of Education and Teacher’s Training» on the topic «Cultures of Thinking and Learning in the Scientific Dialogue». The articles consider new educational standards of Higher and Secondary Education. The acquisition of interactive competence in scientific research and the educational sector is a prerequisite for achieving an identity in order to meet the challenges of our society in the coming decade.

Intercultural Experience of International University Students: an Interpretive Study

Abstract: Implementing international challenges, development of intercultural competence has become one of the priority areas in higher education institutions lately. In different cultural context integration into academic and socio-­cultural life of a university, language and other differences impose serious problems on each international student. This paper explores the intercultural experience of mobility (Erasmus+) and other international students (Chinese), who chose studies at Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. The findings revealed some generalisations can be applied to the understanding of international students’ educational and personal experiences. The research revealed experienced problem situations (academic, cultural, daily life) of international students, which appeared during their degree studies in real environments of intercultural interaction.

Introduction

Internationalisation is one of the key priorities in development of higher education in the European Union countries (Hudzik, 2015; Leask, 2015). Next to the aims of mobility promotion, the implementation of joint study programmes and development of study programmes in foreign languages as well as collaboration with other world regions are applied (European Commission, 2014).
