Edited By Stéphanie Rohlfing-Dijoux

This book is related to the development of intraregional commercial exchanges in the region of the Indian Ocean. This issue is addressed from an economic as well as from a legal point of view. The contributions, in English and French, aim to present an overview of the economic, customs-related, technical, legal and cultural restraints that hinder the creation of a free trading area.

Jacques COLOM

Health security has been reinforced in the European Union and in the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) in particular following the chikungunya epidemic between 2004 and 2006 in the Indian Ocean and Italy. The food safety, which has a strong impact on health and on international trade such as the WTO, has been considered recently and partly by the IOC. It does not been coordinated support of the United Nations, the European Union and Member States of IOC.

The question of the effectiveness of controls at the local, regional and international is vital for the consumer as well as the independence of auditors and experts. The poor governance case study illustrates the limits of food safety. It is learning from knowing that with globalization such an American bad governance case on Teflon has necessarily a health impact in Europe and the Indian Ocean.
