One of the main objectives of planning and design is the reflection of the works to the space. Therefore, the starting point of this book is to reveal the research conducted by different professions in the field of spatial planning and design. For this purpose, original researches on direct application and land were included. Planning and design studies need co-operation between professions in order to fulfill this philosophy. These activities are effective means of fulfilling the philosophy of sustainability. Planning and design is a tool to tell the story of a community, and how it’s past, present and future work together for a sustainable tomorrow. The design process in which the most appropriate spatial compositions are revealed by shaping the areas in the direction of planning decisions, develops in the continuation of the planning process. This book is for landscape architects and other planning and design professions. Theoretical foundations, theories, methods, and applications will be essential parts of this reference book. In addition, this book addresses several very different subjects of study; landscape management, biodiversity, landscape restoration, landscape design, urban design, urban planning and architectural design related to theory, practice and the results will be covered.
10 Cybernetics’ Twin of Urban Environments: Urban Informatics
Abstract: The desire for clearly understanding the urban environment with its dynamic, complex and vibrant structures, also their patterns and processes evolving in space-time is becoming a more achievable target with the increasing volume and variety of spatial data, developments and advancements in related fields (informatics, statistics, computing) and ICT in the last decades. The urban informatics field is establishing its place to utilize the development and tools of informatics in the domain of urban environments with integration methodologies from urban science, information and computing science. Particularly, cognitive informatics are promising for intelligence computing in informatics to deal with complex urban systems. This study attempts to broadly explore an emerging discipline of urban informatics and make a prediction for an urban ecosystem in the future digital world. As a result of all the progress made in urban and informatics science and technology, cybernetics’ twin of urban environment will be born in a virtual world of urban science as another dimension of urban ecosystems. This cybernetics’ twin will probably be part machine and part live organism in a self-organizing system, by learning from the knowledge of urban science and all processing of human brains in real-world cities, and by utilizing the development of informatics science.
