Patients’ Perception of Nursing Care

Abstract

Objective: The study was performed with a view to determining perceived nursing care of patients.

Materials and Methods: Planned as a descriptive study, the population is adult patients who received patient treatment at a private hospital minimum for 24 hours. Data were collected by way of face-to-face interview from 165 patients from November 2017 to February 2018 through “Patient Perception of Hospital Experience with Nursing (PPHEN)” on the day of discharge.

Results: The mean age of the patients who participated in the study is 46.61±16.89 and 52.7 % of them (n=87) are female. Days of staying in hospitals range between two and twelve and average period of staying in hospital is determined as 3.79±2.20 days. The mean PPHEN total score is calculated as 69.88±7.57. The highest “Agreed” response on the scale is 94.5 % for “I am sure nurses will be there for me when I need”. The lowest “Agreed” response on the scale is 57 % for “Nurses provided me with information about the things I was not aware of regarding the hospital”. Total score of PPHEN were found to be statistically meaningful for the patients diagnosed with a circulating system disorders whose experience shifted towards good/favorable for nursing care, who were clearly satisfied with their day and night care sessions, and expressed that the nursing care received would play a remarkable role in their choice of hospital in...
