Estudio de la semántica del dativo checo en diacronía

El trabajo explora – con base en los estudios de corte cognitivo de los eslavistas norteamericanos Laura Janda y Steven Clancy – la evolución de las semánticas asociadas al caso dativo a lo largo de los 700 años de historia de la lengua checa escrita. Del análisis sistemático de 8.355 dativos extraídos de cinco textos, que representan cuatro cortes sincrónicos de la historia de esta lengua, obtenemos la distribución diacrónica de la red semántica del dativo checo en torno a tres subsemánticas principales: dativo receptor, dativo experimentador y dativo competidor. Un último objetivo de este estudio es el diseño de una red conceptual que muestre de forma gráfica toda la riqueza y complejidad de estas relaciones semánticas.

I.1 Introduction

This book undertakes an analysis of the semantics of the dative across the historical development of the written Czech language from the perspective of cognitive semantics. I started studying the Czech dative in 2002 at the Humboldt Universität in Berlin and continued in Prague and Madrid for four more years. In September 2007 I defended my dissertation work on this topic at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The work included two kinds of analysis of the Czech dative in diachrony. In the first part the relation among the dative endings (-u/-ovi) and the category of animacy was considered.134 The second half of the work, which was more important both in terms of size and linguistic implications, was a comprehensive analysis of the semantics of the Czech dative. Nevertheless, I never felt fully satisfied with the final conclusions of this semantic analysis, and consequently I never published it as a book.135

In 2012 I presented my research on dative semantics to my colleagues in a research group created with the financial support of the ESF project “Jazyková rozmanitost a komunikace” (JARKO) (‘Language Diversity and Communication’)136 at Palacký University in Olomouc. After my presentation, an inspiring discussion took place about how to improve the critical analysis of the data and about the need to collect new data regarding contemporary Czech.
