Hi, sweeties!: El género discursivo egoblog y su traducción al inglés a partir de un corpus del francés, italiano y español
Abstract: This study aims to analyse the egobloggers phenomenon from the translation point of view. Generally focused on fashion or ‘life style’ topics and chiefly produced by women, egoblogs are frequently translated to English in order to gain followers and sponsors. The egoblog genre is particularly interesting since, despite using a diaphasic variety (intendedly) colloquial (cf. Yus 2011), it employs a language of specialty, the one of fashion, still very little studied from a linguistic perspective (except Piñeiro 2001, 2011) and even less covered from the translation point of view. Therefore, a corpus of translations to English from posts of egoblogs has been made. These posts’ origin languages (OL) are French, Italian and Spanish, with a triple objective: a) characterize this genre’s translation; b) delimit the authors’ diastratic variety conservation level on the translated text, and c) define some external factors’ influence level on the final product. The corpus consists of posts translated into English from 30 diaries: 10 from French, 10 from Spanish and 10 from Italian. Once classified, the posts have been analysed by observing the problematic units and noticing the methods and procedures voluntarily or involuntarily used in the translation process.
