Comparative stylistic analysis of Croatian, English and French translation of Dark Night of the Soul by St. John of the Cross

Extract

Abstract: Comparative Stylistic Analysis of Croatian, English and French Translations of Dark Night of the Soul by St. John of the Cross. A successful translation strategy is a complex process of reconstructing the original. Up to date linguistic analysis of St. John of the Cross, Doctor of Church whose works are greatly based on symbolism is a key for successful understanding to some of his best poems, such as Dark Night of the Soul. This paper seeks to uncover the layered approach to translation stylistics from the philosophico-linguistic view (Austin, Wittgenstein). The goal of this research is to compare linguistic understanding and show that mystical experience language does not only belong to an extra linguistic sphere, but that it also lays in the domain of complex human communication, visible through a level of translated equivalents.
