The philosophical influence is a concept, a methodological tool and a process worth inquiring, because it sets the frame for the philosopher’s contribution into tradition. This study takes a close look at the philosophical influence on the dependence and inter-dependence between ideas and concepts, currents and tendencies and the experiences that every philosopher inherited from past tradition. It also presents four philosophers in order to identify the roots of influence: Arthur Schopenhauer, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Friedrich Nietzsche and Emil Cioran.

1. Theorizing philosophical influence: Philosophical Influence or War and Peace of the Ideas/Concepts under One Auspice

“It’s not given us to foretell how our words will echo through the ages7”.

“But it will hardly be denied that numerous ideas have, if not necessary connections, at least elective affinities, with various other ideas, and incongruities with yet others which are usually assumed though they may be unexpressed, have implications not always evident or welcome to those who affirm them. An idea, in short, is after all not only a potent but a stubborn thing; it commonly has its own “particular go8”.

Theorizing the concept of a philosophical influence implies first off a probe to find a theoretical ground to prove the significance of the presence of the act of influence in whatever philosopher, thus, a philosophical influence is to be formulated as re-appearance of accepted and re-done ideas, concepts from one philosophical work in others; second off, to present the concept of a philosophical influence more than a mere concept, but as a potential methodological framework, serving the hermeneutic purposes to comprehend the message left or decoded by the philosopher; third off, to formulate the proper steps for a researcher in order to underline the stages of philosophical influence.

In general terms, reading a philosophical text it is not a one-direction act once happened in time and space; the point is that for the accurate comprehension of it the actions of reading and re- reading are more than required from a reader. As if to take a book from the shelve,...
