Summary

Shaping British Romantic Literature in Context explores how British Romantic literature is influenced and shaped by its cultural, social, and historical surroundings. Adopting an inclusive perspective, the volume emphasizes the dynamic interaction between literature and its context, approaching the subject both diachronically and synchronically. Following an overview of the political, social, and cultural background of the period, this study examines authors, texts, and paratexts in chronological order, while simultaneously investigating the major literary genres of poetry, prose, and drama. This dual structure allows the volume to highlight genre-specific trends and developments, while offering a comprehensive view of the period's diverse authorship and literary output.
