Summary

This edited catalog offers an analysis alongside framing and describing the cohesive, curated object collection. Commemorating 1050 years since Otto the Great’s death (912−973), the collection foregrounds the ruler as a foundational European monarch and his connection to Magdeburg, which he lavished with rights and privileges after making it a bishopric as dower for his first wife; a city which still brands itself with the historical legacy of the Ottonian king. The volume begins with a foreword and three studies followed by a catalog divided into seven thematic groups and ample end matter.
