How Does Voluntary Disclosure of ESG Information Influence IPO’S Performance?
1. Introduction
Climate change, social injustice and financial crimes are scenarios which influence investors choice and lead to an increasing interest in sustainability in the financial market, as well as the economy itself (Hartzmark & Sussman, 2017). There may be several reasons for this: On the one hand, an expectation of market participants and clients towards financial institutions and companies is assumed; on the other hand, this interest can also be understood as risk management and preparation for changing market paradigms (Landi et al., 2022). In addition to that, the goal of creating value for future generations and preserving it could be another reason (Signori et al., 2021). Deriving from this, financial market participants try to integrate environmental, social und governance (ESG) in their strategy in order to participate from positive financial effects (Hussain, 2015).
Not only are ESG ratings and sustainability strategies finding their way into investors’ decision-making processes, but interest in the academic and scientific community has also surged in recent years, leading to the abandonment of the maxims of classic economics, market regulation and market efficiency (Friede et al., 2015). Investors use ESG-criteria to find potential investments and companies in order to avoid companies which work against the investors sustainability perception or to find valuable companies in a ESG context (Nakajima et al., 2021).
