Summary

As reading is fundamental in academic settings, its adequate development constitutes one of the crucial aspects of successful university education. This book offers a comprehensive exploration of the skill of reading to learn from academic expository texts in EFL contexts. Blending theoretical frameworks with practical classroom procedures, the monograph focuses on a strategic approach to reading and learning in English. It presents the results of a longitudinal research study aimed at engaging Polish university students in reciprocal reading tasks and generating own text-based questions with the view of building content-area knowledge. The obtained results have significant implications for course development, strategic reading, as well as strategy-oriented teaching and learning in EFL environments.
