Zusammenfassung

Just as the dragon, the werewolf has consistently attracted much attention, first by various authors in the Middle Ages, and then today by scholarship and the wider readership, probably because it evokes such horrors and yet has never existed. Best known might be the lai “Bisclavret” by Marie de France and the romance Guillaume de Palerne. But, as the present anthology demonstrates, the myth of the werewolf was more widely known and incorporated into a variety of texts. Corinne Pierreville here presents a most welcome bilingual edition, with the original texts on the left page and the modern French translation facing on the right page.
