In 1985, the grand dame of German Medieval Studies in France, Danielle Buschinger, edited the proceedings of one of her conferences in Amiens, Guillaume et Willehalm, les épopées françaises et l’œuvre de Wolfram von Eschenbach: actes du colloque des 12 et 13 janvier 1985. Ever since, she has continued producing first-rate work on medieval German literature, and has recently made great efforts to offer translations of some of the major texts. Now, she has created yet another one, in collaboration with Alain Corbellari, Wolfram von Eschenbach’s famous Willehalm (ca. 1218). The fact that she is still producing first-rate scholarship at her age (born in 1935), is simply amazing. Honoré Champion might well be the best French publisher of medieval research, and they are to be lauded for having accepted this translation in their series. These pocket-size (octavo) paperback editions are all well printed, firmly bound, and promise to serve their purpose for years to come.
