Austrian Culture

The series on Austrian Culture provides critical evaluations, in English or German, of Austrian authors, artists, works, currents, or figures from the Middle Ages to the present. Austria is defined as those parts of the old Habsburg empire that produced notable writings in the German language, including Czechoslovakia (Prague) and the Bukovina (Czernowitz). The series offers a forum for the exploration of the multifarious relationships between literature and other aspects of Austrian culture, such as philosophy, music, art, architecture, and the theater. Dissertations and other monograph-length material as well as scholarly translations or editions of outstanding literary works are welcome. Neo-Latin Studies / Neulateinische Studien

The Neo-Latin literature is an important factor uniting Europe as a cultural entity. It is impossible to comprehend European culture as a coherent homogenous whole without an enquiry into this literature. European culture perceived as the sum of national literatures emerges to us as incomplete and distorted as a figure reflected in a broken mirror. The series œNeo-Latin Studies shall include books concerning all aspects of Neo-Latin writing. It is our intention to pay a special attention to Central European writing of the 16th, 17th, 18th centuries and more broadly the issues of the Northern Renaissance. Books “ both collections of studies by various authors (such as its forerunner Pietas Humanistica, 2006) and individual monographs “ will be published both in English and German. The aim of the series Worlds of East Asia of the Swiss Asia Society is to publish high-quality, representative work issuing from academic research on all aspects of East Asia. It comprises, and receives, studies on present-day and historical East Asian cultures and societies covering the fields of art, literature and thought as well as translations and interpretations of important sources. Furthermore the series intends to present studies that offer expert knowledge on relevant themes and current questions appealing not only to the academic public, but also to an audience generally interested in East Asia. One important goal of the series is to establish a forum for academic work in the fields of the humanities and social sciences in Switzerland. However, the series is also committed to the rich variety of studies and writing on East Asia in the international research community. The main publication languages for studies, collections (by individual or several contributors), and surveys are therefore German, French, and English. The series is supervised and internally reviewed by an editorial board comprising leading representatives in East Asian studies. La série Mondes de l’Extrême-Orient de la Société Suisse-Asie publie des recherches de qualité représentatives de la recherche académique sur les cultures et sociétés de l’Asie orientale. Elle propose des études dans des domaines variés comme l’art, la littérature, et la pensée, anciens ou modernes, ainsi que des traductions et interprétations de sources. Elle publie également des travaux qui traitent de questions plus actuelles ou immédiates, de façon compétente mais abordable, avec le souhait de toucher, au-delà des cercles académiques, le grand public cultivé. L’un des buts de la série est de servir de forum pour les sciences humaines et sociales dans le domaine des études asiatique en Suisse. Les travaux de la communauté scientifique internationale sont cependant les bienvenus. Les langues principales des travaux, collections, ou recueils thématiques sont l’allemand, le français et l’anglais. La série est dirigée par un comité composé de chercheurs actifs dans les diverses disciplines des études extrême-orientales. Die Reihe Welten Ostasiens der Schweizerischen Asiengesellschaft stellt repräsentative Arbeiten aus der facettenreichen akademischen Forschung vor. Sie nimmt Studien zu den ostasiatischen Kulturen und Gesellschaften in Gegenwart und Vergangenheit in den Bereichen Kunst, Literatur und Denken sowie Übersetzungen und Interpretationen von Quellentexten auf. Sie will aber auch Arbeiten anbieten, die in allgemein verständlicher Weise kompetentes Wissen zu relevanten und aktuellen Fragen vermitteln und neben dem wissenschaftlichen Zielpublikum auch einer breiter interessierten Leserschaft zugänglich sind. New Testament Studies in Contextual Exegesis. Neutestamentliche Studien zur kontextuellen Exegese

The series New Testament Studies in Contextual Exegesis (NTS) is dedicated to the publication of exegetical works which aim at enhancing a textually adequate understanding of the New Testament by taking into consideration the life-contexts, horizons of interpretation, and questions of the non-Western world. African, Latin-American, Oceanic, and Asian exegetes can, from their own perspectives, make significant contributions to the field of New Testament studies with respect to content and methodology. The contributions that appear in NSKE are works of critical exegesis. They are informed by methodological reflection. The authors consider the cultural embededness or contextuality of the New Testament writings as well as that of the exegetical perspective. Die Reihe "Neutestamentliche Studien zur kontextuellen Exegese" (NTS) ist der Veröffentlichung solcher exegetischen Arbeiten gewidmet, die Lebenskontexte, Deutehorizonte und Fragestellungen der nicht-westlichen Welt für ein textangemessenes Verstehen des Neuen Testaments fruchtbar zu machen suchen. In ihrer je besonderen Perspektivität haben afrikanische, lateinamerikanische, ozeanische und asiatische Exegeten und Exegetinnen sowohl inhaltlich als auch methodisch einiges und zuweilen Entscheidendes im Bereich Neutestamentliche Wissenschaft beizutragen. Bei den in NTS erscheinenden Untersuchungen handelt es sich um exegetisch-kritische Beiträge, die wissenschaftlich-methodisch verantwortet die kulturelle Einbettung bzw. Kontextualität sowohl der neutestamentlichen Schriften als auch der exegetischen Perspektive bedenken.

ALPH: Arbeiten zur Literarischen Phantastik / ALPH: Approaches to Literary Phantasy

This series has been terminated after vol. 9. ALPH: in Coleridge’s poem Kubla Khan, this is a subterranean river based on the Greek Alphaios, which connects different worlds and thus creates new spaces in secret and surprising ways. The title Alph thus stands for works of fantastic literature/phantasy to which this series devotes new and exciting studies, from all ranges of anglophone writing, but also from other languages. Interdisciplinary and comparative studies are particularly welcome. Band 9 schließt diese Reihe ab. ALPH: In Coleridges Gedicht Kubla Khan ist dies ein unterirdischer Fluss, dem griechischen Alphaios entlehnt, der verschiedene Welten verbindet und dabei auf phantastische Weise neue Räume aufdeckt. Darum geht es in den Büchern dieser Reihe, in der neue Studien zur phantastischen Literatur erscheinen, insbesondere, aber nicht nur, der englischsprachigen Welt. Interdisziplinäre und komparatistische Arbeiten sind besonders willkommen.

Sprache und Digitalkultur / Language and Digital Culture

With the advent of digitization, communication with and between machines increasingly plays a role in interpersonal interactions. What will the future look like: will algorithms become more important than argumentation? Will societal discussions and decisions be replaced by big data analyses? What role will social media play, and how will communication work there? Will we still be telling stories in the future, while algorithms will be writing history? In short, how will information technology, social robots and artificial intelligence alter our existing understandings of communication in the emerging digital age? This book series aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for both empirical and theoretical discussions of the relationship between language and digital culture. Book proposals are welcome and may be sent to either the editorial board or the publisher. The languages of publication are German and English. Mit der Digitalisierung tritt neben die zwischenmenschliche Interaktion zunehmend die Kommunikation mit und zwischen Maschinen. Doch wie wird die Zukunft aussehen: Werden Algorithmen wichtiger sein als Argumente? Werden soziale Diskussionen und Entscheidungen durch Big Data-Analysen ersetzt? Welche Rolle werden die Social Media spielen, und wie wird dort kommuniziert werden? Werden wir uns zukünftig zwar noch Geschichten erzählen, Algorithmen aber faktisch Geschichte schreiben? Kurzum: Wie werden Kommunikationstechnologien, soziale Roboter und Künstliche Intelligenz unser bisheriges Verständnis von Kommunikation in einer beginnenden Digitalkultur verändern? Die wissenschaftliche Buchreihe möchte diesem Spannungsverhältnis von Sprache und Digitalkultur ein interdisziplinäres Forum der empirischen wie theoretischen Auseinandersetzung bieten. Manuskriptvorschläge an Herausgebergremium oder Verlag sind willkommen. Publikationssprachen sind Deutsch und Englisch.
