Plants and Animals
Interdisciplinary ApproachesPlants and Animals: Interdisciplinary Approaches aims to publish scholarly work that addresses common challenges across the fields of plant and animal studies from interdisciplinary perspectives. The series welcomes monographs and edited collections that focus and reflect upon interactions of plants, animals, and humans in innovative ways. At a time of large-scale anthropogenic species extinction, there is a pressing need to promote scholarship that can help us envision more equitable and harmonious forms of coexistence on the planet. The series therefore encourages submissions explicitly geared to build bridges not only between plant and animal studies, but also leading-edge research on other forms of life or ways of being, including fungi, lichens, algae and other microorganisms, as well as scholarship on fantasy creatures, cryptids, semi-living beings, and even non-living forms of existence. The goal is to abolish an artificially compartmentalized view of the world in order to add to the ways of knowing that are beginning to grow through the interconnections between these related fields of study. Grounded in the humanities, Plants and Animals welcomes trans-disciplinary perspectives that engage with scholarship in the social sciences and in the natural sciences. Sociología política para los desafíos del siglo XXI
This series seeks to analyse contemporary issues of the global South through the lens of political sociology. It explores the many challenges this region of the world faces that lie at the intersection between politics and society: state capacity, control of the territory and concentration of political and economic power, coexistence of democratic regimes with extraordinary levels of violence, poverty and inequality, weakness of the judicial system, grave human rights violations, government unaccountability, corruption, impunity, media concentration and political use of networks, only to mention a few. The collection aims to offer a methodologically rigorous and conceptually original view of these and other challenges the current world and in particular the global South faces. The series is aimed at social scientists worldwide and it accepts proposals of original research in Spanish and English in both qualitative and quantitative political sociology. <STRIKE> </STRIKE> La colección busca analizar problemas contemporáneos del sur global desde una perspectiva de sociología política original conceptualmente y rigurosa metodológicamente. Consideramos que esta región del mundo enfrenta numerosos desafíos que requieren investigación profunda y original: la capacidad estatal y la necesidad de construir estados erosionados, el control territorial, las íticas de seguridad, la convivencia de regímenes democráticos con niveles de violencia inusitados; los poderes fácticos y la innovación democrática; la desigualdad material y de reconocimiento; nuevos actores políticos y económicos legales e ilegales; nuevas formas de ejercicio de la representación política; debilidad del sistema de justicia etc. Se reciben propuestas en español, e inglés resultado de investigaciones originales con una perspectiva de sociología política cualitativas o cuantitativas. Está dirigida a cientistas sociales del sur global en particular y del mundo en general.

Ikeda/Soka Studies in Education
The Peter Lang series in Ikeda/Soka Studies in Education engages with and takes its name from Ikeda Daisaku (1928–2023) and his many contributions to education as well as from the heritage of ideas and ideals from Makiguchi Tsunesaburō (1871–1944) and Toda Jōsei (1900–1958) that he embraced, developed, and spread globally under the broad banner of “sōka," a Japanese neologism meaning the "creation of value." The series features both intrinsic and extrinsic scholarship as well as original translations of the primary works by Ikeda, Makiguchi, and Toda. By "intrinsic" we mean the historical and primary texts by Ikeda, Toda, and Makiguchi in Japanese and the contexts in which they were written; by "extrinsic" we mean these texts and their ideas in translation and conceptual and empirical application in various contexts and disciplines today. This series thus maintains fidelity to the intrinsic dimensions while exploring extrinsic possibilities that are relevant to current and future demands in education and human becoming worldwide. We seek scholarly submissions on theory and theorizing; empirical, conceptual, and applied research in practice and policy; bilingual and critical discourse analysis; and text-based praxis of Ikeda/Soka Studies in Education in various contexts. These may include, but are not limited to areas in education common to Ikeda, Toda, and/or Makiguchi such as: human education, global citizenship, communities studies, human geography, peace and human rights, nuclear disarmament, dialogue, creativity and the poetic heart/mind/spirit, human revolution, literature and the arts, biospheric sustainability and climate change, interdependence and creative coexistence, civil society, people movements, youth activism and empowerment, deductive reasoning, language and literacies, aptitude and assessment, knowledge and wisdom, student-teacher relationships, social self-actualization, contributive living, happiness, questions of value, and intersections with religion/Buddhism, among others.
