  • Yearbook of the Artificial

    Nature, Culture & Technology

    ISSN: 1660-1084

In the different areas of the artificial - defined as the attempt to reproduce natural objects or processes by means of the available technology - researchers and designers often work within their disciplines with little or no information about research being carried out in other areas. Bioengineers, for instance, know little about the problems of Artificial Intelligence researchers, while roboticians often neglect the efforts of medical engineering, etc. The Yearbook of the Artificial discusses current theories, projects and models from a wide range of areas without going into too many technical details. The main assumption is that there are common logical and methodological problems for all disciplines that are concerned with the reproduction of natural objects and processes. The Yearbook provides a forum for all of them, and covers areas such as bioengineering, robotics, A.I., artificial neural networks, artificial life, multimedia, the history of technology, communications, art and music. • Cultural Management and Cultural Policy Education

    ISSN: 2466-7137

The series exists to foster critical debate and to publish academic research in the field of cultural management and cultural policy as well as to open up a forum for discussions and debate on the topics of cultural management and cultural policy among scholars, educators, policy makers and cultural managers. It is also intended to provide a reference tool for education and lifelong learning on cultural management and cultural policies. It is becoming more and more evident that education in cultural management and cultural policy cannot and should not be separated from research and being conducted in the field. Since its creation, ENCATC has recognized this need and was always very active in pursuing, publishing, presenting, and disseminating research in arts and cultural management and cultural policy to strengthen the understanding of cultural management and cultural policy issues. Created in 1992, ENCATC is the «European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centers». It is a membership NGO gathering over 100 Higher Educational Institutions and cultural organisations in 40 countries. It holds the status of official partner of UNESCO and of observer to the Steering Committee for Culture of the Council of Europe.

  • Cultural Memories

Cultural Memories is the publishing project of the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies, University of London. The Institute is international in scope and promotes innovative research on interdisciplinary approaches to memory. This series supports the Institute by furthering original research in the global field of cultural memory studies. In particular, it seeks to challenge a monumentalizing model of memory in favour of a more fluid and heterogeneous one, where history, culture and memory are seen as complementary and intersecting. The series embraces new methodological approaches, encompassing a wide range of technologies of memory in cognate fields, including comparative studies, cultural studies, history, literature, media and communication, and cognitive science. The aim of Cultural Memories is to encourage and enhance research in the broad field of memory studies while, at the same time, pointing in new directions, providing a unique platform for creative and forward-looking scholarship in the discipline.

    ISSN: 2506-8741

Under the aegis of the LABEX ICCA (LABoratoire d’EXcellence ICCA) research centre, this collection contains the results of research into various cultural industries, in both traditional fields – such as the film industry, television, music or print publishing – and more recent fields such as video or video games. • Cultural Media Studies

    ISSN: 2577-6231

In the past few years, our political, cultural, and media landscapes have cultivated a sharp, notable rise of media activism, more representations of diverse groups and characters, and the need for intersectional approaches to media studies. The #MeToo campaign, the 2017 and 2018 Women’s Marches, Black Lives Matter marches, cross-border anti-feminicide activist marches, immigration marches, and increased representation of diverse sexual identities, racial/ethnic groups, and gender identities are evidence of the need for continued research on cultural media studies topics. The Peter Lang Cultural Media Studies Book Series is accepting book proposals for both proposed book and fully developed manuscripts on a rolling basis for media studies books that explore media production, media consumption, media effects, and media representations of feminism(s), race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and related topics.

  • Literary and Cultural Theory

The objective of the Literary and Cultural Theory series is to publish works, collections of articles, and conference proceedings which aim at transgressing boundaries of single disciplines and at creating common space within which themes and methodologies of those single disciplines merge and contribute to the production of a novel approach to culture, literature, and philosophy. Within thus conceived area of the humanities we place particular emphasis on: first, interdisciplinarity (both in terms of topics and methodology) and, secondly, on theoretical (or theorizing) approach, i.e., an approach which not only aims at describing cultural and literary phenomena, but also at revealing their mechanisms and multiple interrelationships, visible sometimes only when boundaries of disciplines are transgressed, and when areas of overlap are identified. Those priorities do not exclude publication of volumes within what has traditionally been considered the realm of literary studies, as long as the critical and theorizing attitude is maintained. • Europe des cultures / Europe of cultures

    ISSN: 2031-3519

"Europe of Cultures" is a series of studies, monographs, stories, research projects, reports on conferences and debates devoted to the complexities and changing realities in European societies. It bridges the past with the future at the cross road of challenges and opportunities of the transformation of European societies. The management of changes in societies refers to the interconnection of various dimensions and levels of policy-making impacting on economic, social, political, democratic, communication, philosophical, artistic, religious as well as ethical traditions and behaviour. As an editorial project the series is structured along two interconnected and complementary sub-series: i.e. the "(Europe of) Dialogues" series and the "(Europe of) Living Stories". The sub-series "(Europe of) Dialogues" mainly deals with (cultural) diversities, identity and citizenship building in Europe as well as with the relevant multi-level governance and communication structures in the transformation of European societies. Europe is a laboratory for understanding this multi- and intercultural reality. The purpose is to contribute to a better understanding and communication of the changes taking place by looking at the European societies in general, and the specificities of different national, regional and local cultures and communities in a framework of dialogues. The series presents interdisciplinary and critical views of value-driven and policy-oriented reflections. Moreover, it offers new insights into understanding how to manage, value and communicate cultural diversity, identity and citizenship. It also wants to contribute to the development of new ways of "living together", in which cultures and communities are perceived as binding forces in creative society building. The sub-series "(Europe of) Living Stories" (the former "Mémoires de l’Europe en devenir", Director Gabriel Fragnière) is devoted to inspiring narratives for a broad public with a view to contribute to a better understanding, communication and contextualisation of the newly emerging Europe. It mainly focusses on stories, memories and testimonies of persons, events, institutions and issues that have transformed mentalities, fostered European awareness and finally shaped Europe’s future. These stories serve as important references and communication tools for future developments of Europe in the world. This collection wants to be open and diverse, original and dynamic in its content, method and pedagogy faithful to Europe’s role and reference in the globalising world.

  • Transnational Cultures

    ISSN: 2297-2854

Transnational Cultures promotes inquiry into the cultural productions characterized by the vertical and lateral exchanges of ideas, objects and linguistic practices across the globe with a particular emphasis on South–South exchanges, minor transnational relations and Indigenous experiences. The series strives to offer a renewed understanding of minor and minority expressions and articulations of transnational experiences that often escape national and global discourses. With the growth of diasporic communities, migratory crossings and virtual exchange, cultural productions beyond, across and traversing national borders have become a growing focus of scholarship within historical, contemporary and comparative contexts. The series investigates how a transnational lens might transform existing understandings of cultural exchange, belonging, and identity formation in any period or location. This series addresses a range of questions, including but not limited to the following: What broader flows of knowledge, capital and power mark pre-modern, modern and contemporary cultural productions and identity formations? How do marginal experiences trouble existing narratives of the nation-state and global–local paradigms? What kinds of creolization of cultures and experiences evolve in the processes of transnationalism? How do transnational flows in the Global South, and among marginal or minority communities, facilitate sites of articulation outside normative discourses? Proposals for monographs and edited collections from international scholars are welcome. The series is interdisciplinary in scope and welcomes research on literature, film, new media, visual culture and beyond. All proposals and manuscripts will be subjected to rigorous peer review. The main language of publication is English. Editorial Board: Adeshina Afolayan (Ibadan, Nigeria), Michael S. Gorham (Florida), Weihsin Gui (UC Riverside), Brian Haman (Vienna), Olivia Khoo (Monash, Australia), Amara Lakhous (Yale), Anne Garland Mahler (Virginia), Deepti Misri (Colorado–Boulder), Nasser Mufti (Illinois–Chicago), Valentina Pedone (Florence), Dorothy Price (Courtauld Institute of Art), Oana Popescu-Sandu (Southern Indiana), Sara Pugach (Cal State LA), Mireille Rebeiz (Dickinson), Giulia Riccò (Michigan), Mark Sabine (Nottingham), Lisa Shaw (Liverpool), Shuang Shen (Penn State), Kyle Shernuk (Georgetown), Emily Celeste Vázquez Enríquez (UC Davis).
