American Studies: Culture, Society & the Arts

The series aims to publish studies of the American achievement in the literary and non-literary arts, of American intellectual history and of American cultural and social history, from the period of discovery to the present. Studies in Life Writing

Studies in Life Writing: Biography, Autobiography, Memoir welcomes full-length studies of life writing in all its forms: biography, autobiography, memoir, journals, diaries, blogs, and so forth. Dovetailing nicely with the critical theories of the later twentieth century, life writing questions the divide between fact and fiction, challenges the possibility of presenting a life objectively, and examines how the shaping forces of language and memory prohibits any simple attempts at truth and reference. Provocatively, interest in life writing has increased as both autobiographical and biographical narratives have become a major presence on the Internet, and the growth of literary nonfiction has prompted a resurgence of life narratives and memoirs. The series invites both single-authored book-length studies and multi-authored essay collections on the theory and/or pedagogy of life writing.

WGS Pathbreakers

WGS Pathbreakers is a subseries of Women, Gender and Sexuality in German Literature and Culture (https://www.peterlang.com/series/wgl), edited by Helen Finch and Katherine Stone, that seeks to showcase the cultural contribution of women, queer, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming writers and artists to German studies, making important aesthetic, scholarly and political developments accessible to a wider audience. We welcome new proposals for both: Critical editions, which may include single works, selections from the corpus of an individual author, or multi-author anthologies by, or that offer fresh perspectives on, pathbreaking female, queer and trans culture. Critical editions should have the potential to initiate novel scholarly conversations and include a substantive introductory essay, glossary and contextualising annotations, where appropriate. Translations into English, which may include single works, selections from the corpus of an individual author, or extracts from the output of multiple authors that will serve to illuminate significant issues in the representation of gender and/or sexuality in German-language culture. Each submission should include a rigorous scholarly introduction, as well as a translator’s note or essay, glossary and explanatory annotations, where appropriate. Parallel texts will be considered. In the case of new translations of works with existing English-language editions, proposals should make a cogent case for the shortcomings of previous translations and the added value of the new translation. We welcome enquiries from translators. The series editors are primarily interested in works that merit intensified scholarly attention, but which have been overlooked by conventional publishers, censored or fallen out of print. The subseries therefore reflects our desire for a more diverse understanding of German-language culture for the purposes of research, teaching and performance. Please note that all proposals should provide detail about the intended audience for the proposed volume, including potential non-academic readers and courses where these texts are currently taught or would be taught. Proposals should also clearly articulate the value of the translation or critical edition for contemporary feminist and queer German Studies, taking into account any ethical and pedagogical issues that could impact reception by contemporary audiences. We ask that the volume editor or translator take responsibility for securing the rights to all primary material and covering any costs required for reprinting or translating the work.

The Centre for Swiss Cultural Studies in the Department of Modem Languages at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (GB) was set up in 1996, formalising a long tradition of publication, research and teaching irr Swiss studies there. As part of the expansion of activities in publishing and in creating outlets for scholarly work, it was decided to launch a series, Occasional Papers in Swiss Studies. lt is envisaged that each volume of the series, which will appear at intervals of about a year, will bring together approximately six essays relating to a single theme and written by scholars in the field of Swiss studies. lt is the aim of the editors to select themes which have a contemporary dimension and, whilst the majority of the essays will have a literary focus, each number will contain at least one essay by a scholar in a discipline such as history or cultural studies. lt is hoped that the series will both present aspects of Swiss culture and contribute to general debate on matters Swiss.

As the title "cross roads" indicates, we wish this series to be a meeting point for a variety of academic approaches relating both to literary theory and history as well as cultural and anthropological studies, challenging the complexity of both contemporary and historical empirical research undertakings. International Bonhoeffer Interpretations

This series on the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906–1945) seeks to offer what its title promises by presenting interpretations of his thought from international perspectives. The term interpretation is meant to indicate both careful analysis of Bonhoeffer’'s texts and the creative exploration of his theological ideas in order to gauge their relevance for contemporary issues of interpretation, religion, politics, and culture. The editors hope that this series will promote greater awareness of Bonhoeffer’'s international significance and facilitate research from a variety of cultural and disciplinary perspectives. The series IBI will include the conference proceedings of the annual International Bonhoeffer Colloquia (IBC) which are organized by the editors of the series. These colloquia concentrate on different aspects of Bonhoeffer’'s theology and try to coordinate the international network of Bonhoeffer projects. Their focus is the exchange and cooperation among younger research fellows dealing with the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The new series will also include monographs and essay collections which reflect on the new perspectives Bonhoeffer’'s theology opens up for current challenges experienced by an increasingly international global community.

Ralahine Utopian Studies

Ralahine Utopian Studies is the publishing project of the Ralahine Centre for Utopian Studies at the University of Limerick in association with the University of Bologna, the University of Cyprus, the University of Florida and the University of Maine. The series publishes high-quality scholarship that addresses the theory and practice of utopianism (including Anglophone, continental European and indigenous and postcolonial traditions, and contemporary and historical periods). Publications (in English and other European languages) include original monographs and essay collections (including theoretical, textual and ethnographic/institutional research), English-language translations of utopian scholarship in other national languages, reissues of classic scholarly works that are out of print and annotated editions of original utopian literary and other texts (including translations). While the series editors seek work that engages with the current scholarship and debates in the field of utopian studies, they will not privilege any particular critical or theoretical orientation. They welcome submissions by established or emerging scholars working within or outside the academy. Given the multilingual and interdisciplinary remit of the series, the editors especially welcome comparative studies in any disciplinary or transdisciplinary framework.

Critical Studies of Latinxs in the Americas

The Latinx presence continues to grow and intersect with every aspect of life in the 21st century. This is evident when one considers the appointment of Sonia Sotomayor as Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court. As well as the prominence of distinct Latinx individuals in various spheres of social, cultural, and political life such as Mario J. Molina, Nobel Prize winner and recipient of the Medal of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013; and Jorge Maria Bergoglio (Pope Francis) who has revolutionized the Catholic church since he became the highest ecclesiastical authority of the Catholic world in 2013. Latino Studies, as an academic field of inquiry, began to emerge during the early 1990s surfacing from the more recognized field of Chicano Studies. As such, the major contributions to the field first emerged from Mexican/Chicano scholarship—publications such as Aztlán, the most important journal in the field of Chicano Studies since 1970; Gloria Anzaldúa’’s groundbreaking memoir/essay, Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza (1987); George J. Sanchez’s historical account, Becoming Mexican American: Ethnicity, Culture, and Identity in Chicano Los Angeles, 1900-1945 (1995); and the two volumes of The Chicano Studies Reader: An Anthology of Aztlan, 1970-2010. These are a few examples of the consolidation and the continuing development of Chicano Studies in the United States. In the past two decades, Latino Studies have grown and expanded significantly. There have been a large number of publications about Latinxs in the Midwest and North East; in addition, due to the fast-growing population of Latinxs in the area, new scholarship has emerged about the Latinxs in the New South. Some examples of the emerging field of Latino Studies are the Latinos on the East Coast (2015) edited by Yolanda Medina and Ángeles Donoso Macaya, Global Cities and Immigrants (2015) by Francisco Velasco Caballero and María de los Angeles Torres; the Handbook of Latinos and Education (2010) edited by Enrique Murillo, et al.; Angela Anselmo’s and Alma Rubal-Lopez’s 2004 On Becoming Nuyoricans; David Carey Jr. and Robert Atkinson (2009) Latino Voices in New England; Yolanda Prieto’s case study entitled, The Cubans of Union City: Immigrants and Exiles in a New Jersey Community (2009); and Lawrence La Fontaine-Stokes’ Queer Ricans Cultures and Sexualities in the Diaspora (2009). Critical Studies of Latinxs in the Americas will become the counterpart of the aforementioned research about the Latinx diaspora that deserve equal scholarly attention and will add to the academic field of inquiry that highlights the lived experience, consequential progress and contributions, as well as the issues and concerns that all Latinxs face in present times. This provocative series will offer a critical space for reflection and questioning of what it means to be Latinx living in the Americas, extending the dialogue to include the North and South hemispheric relations that are prevalent in other fields of global studies such as Post-Colonial Theory, Post-Colonial Feminism, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Critical Race Theory, and others. This broader scope can contribute to prolific interdisciplinary research and can also promote changes in policies and practices that will enable today’s leaders to deal with the overall issues that affect us all. Topics that explore contemporary inequalities and social exclusions associated with processes of racialization, economic exploitation, health, education, transnationalism, immigration, identity politics, and abilities that are not commonly highlighted in the current literature as well as the multitude of socio-economic, and cultural commonalities and differences among the Latinxs in the Americas will be at the center of the series. As the Latinx population continues to grow and change, and universities enhance their Latino Studies programs to be inclusive of all types of Latinx identities, a series dedicated to the lived experience of Latinxs in the Americas and a consideration of their progress and concerns in the social, cultural, political, economic, and artistic arenas is of incredible value in the quest for pedagogical practices and understandings that apply a critical perspective to the issues facing scholars in this area of study. Literary and Cultural Studies, Theory and the (New) Media

Literary and Cultural Studies, Theory and the (New) Media provides a forum for discussions on a variety of topics in literary, cultural, and media studies. Open to comparatist approaches, the series main venue is in anglophone literature and media, with a special emphasis on narratological, postcolonial, film and media studies. Dedicated to promoting innovative and theoretically informed analyses, the series publishes monographs as well as edited volumes versed in media and literary theory. It also encourages explorations within, as well as dialogues between, narratological, postcolonial, feminist and queer approaches. Other theoretical approaches (stylistics, New Historicism, ecocriticism, etc.) are welcome as are works on literary and cultural theory. All volumes in the series are peer-reviewed. Monographs: Only complete manuscripts are accepted for review. Edited volumes: A proposal with two essays is solicited; a final decision will be taken after all the essays have been submitted in their final form. Eastern European Studies in Musicology

This publication series was established with the aim of spreading the leading achievements of Polish, Central and Eastern European musicologists active in various fields of musicology. These fields include music history and musical traditions, ethnomusicology and musical anthropology, as well as music sociology, aesthetics and philosophy. The series will feature different genres: monographic works, collections of essays, articles and dissertations by a single author, as well as collective works and scientific conference proceedings. The editorial team will be working not only with renowned scholars but also young post-doctoral authors. The Workshop. Art History and Museum Studies is devoted to the history of art from the Middle Ages to the present. The series deals especially but not exclusively with the history of collections, of collectors or museums, and more generally with museum studies. Its main objective is to offer to the alleged two Art Histories - the Museum and the Academy - a place open to institutional dialogue and to transdisciplinarity, a place of discussion about experimentation and creation and a place dedicated to the excellence of historical and critical reflection. It welcomes monographs and essays as well as collections of essays in French, German and English. The series was founded by Pascal Griener and Pierre Alain Mariaux, L'Atelier. Travaux d'Histoire de l'art et de Muséologie réunit des études consacrées à l'histoire de l'art du Moyen Age à nos jours. Elle porte entre autres, mais non exclusivement, sur l'histoire des collections, des collectionneurs ou des musées, et plus généralement sur la muséologie. La collection a comme objectif majeur d'offrir aux prétendues deux histoires de l'art, l'académique et la muséale, un lieu ouvert au dialogue institutionnel et à la transdisciplinarité, un lieu de discussion sur l'expérimentation et la création, un lieu dédié à l'excellence d'une réflexion historique et critique. Revisioning Philosophy

This series seeks innovative and explorative thought in the foundation, aim, and objectives of philosophy. Preference will be given to approaches to world philosophy and to the repositioning of traditional viewpoints. New understandings of knowledge and being in the history of philosophy will be considered. Works may take the form of monographs, collected essays, and translations which demonstrate the imaginative flair of examining foundational questions.
