"From Antiquity to Modernity: Studies on Middle Eastern and Asian Societies is a series focusing on aspects central to Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and South Asian societies in the past and the present. It is designed to contribute toward better understandings of those important regions’ peoples. Original research within the disciplines of anthropology, archeology, art history, cultural studies, economics, history, history of science, international relations, languages, literatures, politics, religions, and sociology will be published. Interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary, and multidisciplinary studies are welcome as well. So are ones that advance methodologies relating to complexities of the Middle East, Central Asia, and South Asia. Manuscripts can be single- authored or co-authored; edited volumes that form a cohesive body of knowledge will be considered, too. Each book-length manuscript will undergo editorial and peer review prior to acceptance for publication. Individual volumes in From Antiquity to Modernity are of particular value to individuals studying and investigating the Middle East and Asia at universities, think tanks, and governmental and nongovernmental agencies while also being of interest to the general educated reader. Immigration from Europe to North America

Although human beings have been migrating across the globe for millennia, mass migration to North America has occurred only in the last 200 years. Whether they came to farm the land, to practice their crafts, or to find work in newly-emerging industries, over 50 000 000 immigrants crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the last two centuries to begin a new life in the «New World». This series presents examples of the latest scholarship on mass migration from Europe to North America. It welcomes comparative studies of immigrants who went to either Canada or the United States, or both. It also features interdisciplinary studies, biographies, collected essays, and conference papers related to immigration to North America. The subject matter of this series is intended to cover a wide range of interdisciplinary research works on the texts of text-processing activities of humans embedded as communication participants into their social roles and culture. Within the scope of particular topics, the readers may find academic treaties pertaining not only to the structure and content of meaning-bearers materialized in the verbal behavior of people but also to their functioning in the domain of art and education. Respective contributions in the form of books and articles will be made by specialists of theoretical an applied linguistics, as well as the history of literature and intercultural communication engaged in the process of second language teaching. The series Sources and Studies in Music History from Antiquity to the Present treats a wide range of musicological subjects from antiquity to the present day. There are editions of unknown or forgotten musical sources, biographies of composers, monographs, collections of articles and lectures. Its intention is to promote the dialogue between historical, comparative, and interdisciplinary studies, including recent developments in musicology and musical theory. Die Reihe Quellen und Studien zur Musikgeschichte von der Antike bis in die Gegenwart beschäftigt sich mit einer großen Bandbreite von musikwissenschaftlichen Themen von der Antike bis in die neueste Zeit. Hier erscheinen Quelleneditionen unbekannter oder vergessener Musikwerke, Komponistenbiographien und Monographien sowie Schriften und Vorträge. Die Reihe nimmt aber auch epochenübergreifende und interdisziplinäre Entwicklungen zum Anlass für vergleichende Studien. Ebenso werden aktuelle Entwicklungen der Musikwissenschaft und Musiktheorie als Forschungsfeld aufgegriffen.

Die Zielsetzung der Reihe Social Strategies ist es, Theorie und Praxis in soziologischen und gesellschaftspolitischen Problemstellungen zu verbinden. Dabei interessieren fundierte Analysen sowie konkrete Lösungsansätze und Handlungsvorschläge. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte bilden die Bereiche soziale Ungleichheit sowie Konflikt und Kooperation im Kontext globaler Prozesse. Eine enge Zusammenarbeit besteht mit der Hochschule für Soziale Arbeit (Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz), dem Basler Institut für Soziologie (Universität Basel) und dem dort angesiedelten Zentrum für Konfliktforschung. Daneben nimmt die Reihe aber auch Manuskripte von anderen Forscherinnen und Forschern auf. Die sozialwissenschaftlich orientierten Arbeiten sollen neben dem wissenschaftlichen auch ein breiteres, an soziologischen und gesellschaftspolitischen Fragen interessiertes Publikum ansprechen. Publiziert werden Kongressberichte, Festschriften, Dissertationen und weitere Arbeiten, die sich interdisziplinär mit sozialen Fragen und Strategien auseinander setzen. Die Publikationssprachen sind deutsch, englisch und französisch.

European Connections

European Connections: Studies in Comparative Literature, Intermediality and Aesthetics is a peer-reviewed series that publishes innovative research monographs, edited volumes as well as translations of key theoretical works. The series focuses on the literary and artistic relations that have shaped and continue to shape European cultures across national, linguistic and media boundaries, leading to vibrant new forms of artistic creation and aesthetic expression. It also wishes to explore relations with non-European cultures with a view to fostering more equitable models of cultural exchange and transfer. The series promotes comparative, intermedial and interdisciplinary approaches, whether studies of specific writers, filmmakers and artists; critical re-evaluations of historical periods (from the medieval to the ultra-contemporary) and movements; or wider theoretical reflections within the fields of comparative literature, intermediality studies and aesthetics. In light of the urgent need to revitalize the idea of Europe along new lines of thought, the series encourages research that explores the rich connections within European artistic and cultural production as well as the participation of European cultures in what the great philosopher of relation Édouard Glissant has called the Tout-monde. "Catholic Thought from Lublin is a monograph series devoted to Lublin philosophy and its applications. Books in the series represent the major voices in this school and address a broad range of philosophical subjects. Essentially, Lublin philosophy is the latest systematic presentation and interpretation of Thomistic thought. It was introduced in Poland after World War II. Lublinism, or Polish Existential Thomism, embodies a new and revolutionary ideal in the history of Catholic philosophical and theological teaching under the aegis of John Paul II. Lublinism represents a genuine quest into the classical philosophy of Aristotle and Aquinas based on both an objective rigorous study of reality understood as being in concreto and a subjective pursuit in evaluating human existence (in its internal experience) as personal being. In its “catholicity,” the Polish version of Thomistic thought from Lublin is an intricately nuanced melding of the best insight of contemporary existentialism, chiefly from Marcel and Heidegger; of methodology drawn from Scheler and Ingarden; and of realist metaphysics from Aquinas, together with some of the methodological results of the Lwow/Warsaw school of logic.
