In our series Culture and Knowledge we publish selected philosophical studies with a focus on Philosophy of Science and Intercultural Philosophy. Culture and Knowledge is edited by Professor Friedrich Wallner whose areas of specialisation encompass Philosophy of Science and Intercultural Philosophy. His extensive research covers a wide range of topics, from Theory of Psychotherapy to Traditional Chinese Medicine. In unserer Reihe Culture and Knowledge veröffentlichen wir Studien aus dem Fachbereich der Philosophie mit einem starken Fokus auf Wissenschaftstheorie und Interkulturelle Philosophie. Culture and Knowledge wird herausgegeben von Prof. Friedrich Wallner, dessen Forschungsschwerpunkte auf Wissenschaftsphilosophie und Interkultureller Philosophie liegen. Seine Studien befassen sich mit einer breiten Palette von Themen, von der Theorie der Psychotherapie bis hin zur Traditionellen Chinesischen Medizin.

Diversitas

The aim of this series is to study diversity by privileging an interdisciplinary approach, through political, legal, cultural and social frameworks. The proposed method of inquiry will be to appeal, at once, to the fields of political philosophy, law, political science, history and sociology. In a period characterized by the increasing diversity of contemporary societies, the authors published in this series will explore avenues for the accommodation and management of pluralism and identity. Such studies will not be limited to assessments of federal states, but will include states that are on the path to federalization as well as non-federal states. Serious efforts will be undertaken to enrich our comprehension of so-called ‘nations without states’, most notably Catalonia, Scotland, Flanders and Quebec. A point of emphasis will also be placed on extracting lessons from experiences with civil law relative to those cases marked by the common law tradition. Monist and competing models will be compared in order to assess the relative capacity of each model to provide responses to the question of political instability, while pursuing the quest for justice in minority societies. The series also addresses the place of cities in the management of diversity, as well as the question of migration more generally and the issue of communities characterized by overlapping and hybrid identities. A profound sensitivity to historical narratives is also expected to enrich the proposed scientific approach. Finally, the works published in this series will reveal a common aspiration to advance social and political debates without privileging any particular school of thought. Cette collection cherche à étudier la diversité sous les angles politique, juridique, culturel et social en privilégiant le prisme de l’interdisciplinarité. La démarche scientifique proposée fait appel à la fois à la philosophie politique, au droit, à la science politique, à l’histoire, de même qu’à la sociologie. Au moment où les sociétés sont de plus en plus traversées par la diversité, les auteurs publiés dans cette collection exploreront des avenues en vue de gérer le pluralisme communautaire et identitaire. Sont mis à l’étude tout aussi bien les pays fédéraux et les pays en voie de fédéralisation que les pays non fédéraux. Des efforts importants seront consentis afin d’enrichir notre compréhension des nations dites «　sans État　» – pensons à la Catalogne, à l’Écosse, à la Flandre, au Pays basque et au Québec. Une volonté affirmée de mettre en parallèle les enseignements tirés des expériences civilistes et de celles propres au droit coutumier sera au rendez-vous. Les modèles monistes et concurrents seront mis dos à dos afin de saisir la capacité propre à chacun de fournir des réponses à l’instabilité politique tout en poursuivant la quête de justice pour les sociétés minoritaires. La place des métropoles au chapitre de la gestion de la diversité retiendra notre attention de même que les questions de migration des populations et du métissage communautaire. Une sensibilité à la trame historique viendra enrichir la démarche scientifique proposée. Les ouvrages publiés dans cette collection auront en commun leur volonté de faire avancer les débats de société sans privilégier aucune école de pensée. Directeur de la collection : Alain-G. Hegeliana

Die 1991 begründete Reihe ist bestimmt für Texte Hegels, Monographien und Sammelbände über Hegel, Quellen und Studien zum Hegelianismus. Sowohl die historische als auch systematische, problemorientierte Hegelforschung sind vertreten. Auch sehr spezielle Themen und Fragestellungen finden Aufnahme. Bisher konnten bereits vier Bände mit Ersteditionen wichtiger Hegeltexte veröffentlicht werden: die einzige bisher bekannte Nachschrift von Hegels Vorlesung über Ästhetik 1820/21 in Berlin, eine Nachschrift von Hegels Vorlesung über Rechtsphilosophie 1822/23, eine Nachschrift von Hegels Vorlesung über Naturphilosophie 1823/24, eine synoptische Edition der für die Wissenschaft der Logik unmittelbar wichtigen Logik der Mittelklasse 1810/11 in ihren Überlieferungsvarianten. Der internationale Charakter der Reihe wird durch zahlreiche ausländische Autoren dokumentiert. Zwei Bände wurden bisher übersetzt (Bd. 12 und Bd. 15).

Medieval Interventions publishes innovative studies on medieval culture broadly conceived. By «innovative», we envisage works espousing, for example, new research protocols especially those involving digitized resources, revisionist approaches to codicology and paleography, reflections on medieval ideologies, fresh pedagogical practices, digital humanities, advances in gender studies, as well as fresh thinking on animal, environmental, geospatial, and nature studies. In short, the series will seek to set rather than follow agendas in the study of medieval culture. Since medieval intellectual and artistic practices were naturally interdisciplinary, the series welcomes studies from across the humanities and social sciences. Recognizing also the vigor that marks the field worldwide, the series endeavors to publish work in translation from non-Anglophone medievalists.

Sympaian - Jahrbuch der Internationalen Franz Werfel-Gesellschaft

Im Jahre 1995 gedachte man Franz Werfels 50. Todestag. Zu diesem Anlaß wurde die Internationale Franz Werfel-Gesellschaft (IFWG) mit Sitz in Wien gegründet. Die Gründung fand während des Symposiums "Musikalität bei Franz Werfel" am 21. Februar 1995 in Szeged im grünen Salon des Kaffees VIRÁG statt. Die IFWG setzt sich zum Ziel, das Verständnis der Werke Franz Werfels zu fördern und die geistige Hinterlassenschaft des Schriftstellers zu pflegen. Sie möchte insbesondere durch einen Gedankenaustausch der Forscher, Kenner und Freunde des Dichters in aller Welt sein Andenken bewahren, sein geistiges Vermächtnis ehren und dazu beitragen, seine hinterlassenen Werke zu veröffentlichen. Aus dieser Zielsetzung erwachsen der Gesellschaft eine Reihe spezifischer Aufgaben, unter anderem die Herausgabe des Jahrbuchs Sympaian. Neben einem Schwerpunktthema - im ersten Jahrbuch geht es um Musikalität bei Franz Werfel - berichtet das Jahrbuch über Dissertationen und Diplomarbeiten und verfügt über einen ausführlichen Rezensionsteil.

Currents in Comparative Romance Languages and Literatures

The Currents in Comparative Romantic Languages and Literatures series was founded in 1987, and actively solicits book-length manuscripts (approximately 200-400 pages) which treat aspects of romance languages and literatures. Originally established for works dealing with two or more romance literatures, the series has broadened its horizons and now includes studies on themes within a single literature or between different literatures, civilizations, art, music, film and social movements, as well as comparative linguistics. Studies on individual writers with an influence on other literatures/civilizations are also welcome. This series entertains a variety of approaches and formats, provided the scholarship and methodology are appropriate.

This series explores the history of schools and schooling in the United States and other countries. The series will examine the historical development of schools and educational processes, with special emphasis on issues of educational policy, curriculum and pedagogy, as well as issues relating to race, class, gender, and ethnicity. Special emphasis will be placed on the lessons to be learned from the past for contemporary educational reform and policy. Although the series will publish books related to education in the broadest societal and cultural context, it especially seeks books on the history of specific schools and on the lives of educational leaders and school founders. Caribbean Studies

Caribbean Studies treats all aspects of Caribbean culture and society, including, but not necessarily limited to, literatures, history, film, music, art, geography, politics, languages, and social sciences. Studies may focus on European, Amerindian, African, or Asian heritages or on a combination of any/all of the above. Linear and chronological approaches, as well as comparative studies are welcome. Places and/or cultures under study may include English-, Spanish-, French-, or Dutch-speaking areas in any time frame or discipline. Manuscripts may be written in English, Spanish, or French, preferably in the language in which the author feels most comfortable. Studies may be on contemporary or previous periods and, if appropriate, can draw comparisons with other global regions.

A Critical Introduction to Media and Communication Theory

The study of the media has led scholars to apply a humbling array of theories in their efforts to analyze messages, media systems, audiences and media themselves. One of the strengths of media studies has been its flexibility as it incorporates humanist and social scientific ideas in our work. This series is focused on theories, methods, schools of thought, domains of intellectual struggle, and individual thinkers whose importance to the study of the media can be reconfigured, reinvented, and refocused. Each of the specially commissioned books in the series shares a concern for the heritage of thought in the field of communication. These books provide sophisticated discussions of the relevance of particular theorists or theories, with an emphasis on reinventing communication and media studies, whether by incorporating ideas thought by some to be 'outside' the field, or by providing fresh analyses of ideas that have long been considered　central to media studies. Though theoretical in focus, the books are at all times concerned with the applicability of theory to empirical research and experience, and are designed to be accessible, yet critical, for students - undergraduates and postgraduates - and scholars.
