Historia y contacto en textos indorrománicos

Die Buchreihe Historia y contacto en textos indorrománicos widmet sich linguistischen Untersuchungen zu hispano- und lusoamerikanischen Sprachgemeinschaften, in denen sich im Laufe der Zeit klar idiosynkratische Merkmale herausgebildet haben. Das Ziel der Reihe besteht sowohl darin die verschiedenen aktuellen Sprachsituationen in diesen Kommunikationsräumen als auch die verschiedenen Stadien der Herausbildung und Entwicklung der amerikanischen Sprachgemeinschaften zu beschreiben und zu analysieren. Die Beschreibung und Analyse basieren auf der Arbeit mit direkten und metasprachlichen Quellen sowie deren notwendiger soziohistorischer und kultureller Kontextualisierung. Die Herausgeber der Reihe sind Prof. Dr. Martina Schrader-Kniffki (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz) und Dr. José Carlos Huisa Téllez (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz). La colección Historia y contacto en textos indorrománicos reúne estudios lingüísticos dedicados a espacios comunicativos hispano y lusoamericanos, en los que las comunidades de habla han ido formando a través del tiempo claros rasgos idiosincrásicos. Se pretende describir y analizar tanto las diversas situaciones lingüísticas actuales en estos espacios comunicativos como también los diferentes estadios de formación y evolución de las comunidades de habla americanas. Tales descripción y análisis se basan en el trabajo con fuentes, directas o metalingüísticas, y en su necesaria contextualización sociohistórica y cultural. Social and cultural processes are eminently historical. Historical research and historical studies, themselves embedded in historical contexts, meet this fact by reconstructing historical processes and by making offers for their analysis and interpretation. A series of new phenomena and transformations are currently challenging the exploration of education and formation and their different institutionalized forms. Among them, the process of dense globalization, increasing cultural transfers and entanglements, the scarcity of natural resources, the accelerated pace of the transformation of media environments and novel forms of individualization are some of the most pressing. These phenomena and transformations pose new questions for historical research in education. The book series "Studia Educationis Historica" offers historical studies that address these challenges with traditional and innovative historical research methods. The series offers analyses on the history of education in different countries as well as comparative and international studies. German, English, and Spanish are the languages of the book series. La historiografía, una práctica integrada en tramas históricas determinadas, responde a este fenómeno en tanto reconstruye procesos históricos y genera ofertas de análisis e interpretación de los mismos. La investigación sobre educación, formación y sus diversas formas de institucionalización está siendo desafiada actualmente por fenómenos y procesos vinculados a la globalización densa, a las crecientes transferencias y conexiones culturales, a la escasez de recursos naturales, al cambio vertiginoso de los medios de comunicación y a nuevos procesos de individualización. Die Erforschung von Erziehung und Bildung und der verschiedenen Formen ihrer Institutionalisierung ist heute zugleich von Phänomenen und Prozessen einer dichten Globalisierung, verstärkter kultureller Verschränkungen und Transfers, von Ressourcenknappheit, einem beschleunigten Medienwandel und neuartigen Prozessen der Individualisierung geprägt. Interamericana

Volume 13 concludes this series. The burgeoning field of Inter-American Studies interrogates the notion of traditionally bounded disciplinary territories while highlighting the United States internal cultural plurality and its multi-faceted interrelatedness with other countries. Focusing on complex forms of interdependence between Anglophone and Francophone Canada, the United States, Latin America as well as the Caribbean, this series is devoted to publications that analyze and reconceptualize American literatures, cultures, histories, borderlands, demographic migrations, as well as environmental and socio-political concerns within a postnational, subaltern, comparative, hemispheric, transatlantic, or transpacific framework. Prior to publication, the works published in this series have been reviewed by external referees appointed by the editorship.

Histories of Religious Pluralism

This new book series will show that a critical understanding of religious pluralism in the past is of vital significance to debates about identity, diversity, and co-existence in the present. Studies will focus on using a historical perspective to address one of three key themes in the period between 1500 and 2000 CE: intra-religious pluralism; inter-religious pluralism; or, religion, secularism, and the nation state. Within this frame of reference, constructive contrasts between a wide range of foci, approaches, and viewpoints will be keenly encouraged. The series will champion established lines of research in political, social, cultural, and gendered histories of religious pluralism – e.g. studies on liberty, persecution, and toleration – whilst also encouraging novel ways of transcending a scholarly discourse which is dominated by ideologies and methodologies derived from the social sciences – e.g. by studies on the theological and literary dimensions of conflict, cohesion, and community. The series will embrace scholarship on subjects from any part of the world. European and extra-European perspectives that complement traditional Anglo-American thinking are particularly welcome. As the ‘global turn’ continues to energize new types of enquiry, the series will also seek to advance studies of indigenous and displaced religious groups. With this scope there is a reflexive acknowledgement that the rationale for and defining concepts of the series are grounded in a ‘western’ intellectual tradition; however, this should serve as a challenge to prospective authors to pioneer new dialogues between ‘western’ and ‘non-western’ approaches and foci, or even surpass the dichotomy altogether. An emphasis will be given to promoting the best research of early career scholars from around the world, whilst also giving more established academics the opportunity to develop their multimedia policy-orientated work – e.g. podcasts, blogs, talks, press briefings, reports for thinktanks, governments, and public agencies etc. – into a book that would engage peers and students alike. Art and Thought / Art et pensée

If the past is continually retold in the present, as Walter Benjamin suggests, what can critical perspectives reveal and what do they obscure about the history of our modern time? Art and Thought: Histories of the Avant-Garde revisits and reconceptualises the histories of modernism, avant-gardism and postmodernism. Volumes in the series will each offer a critical perspective developed in response to specific cultural artefacts and their qualities. They will engage with literary, artistic and theoretical works, from the past as well as the present, and explore the interactions between literature, visual art, film and music, including the livre d’artiste. The series showcases work by new as well as established scholars, whether monographs, single- or multi-authored collections of essays, and new editions of salient or neglected primary texts in English or French, including original aesthetic works. Writing on translation as well as in translation is welcome. Walter Benjamin nous rappelle que le passé se dit au présent. Dans quelle mesure la pensée critique permet-elle d’illuminer notre histoire ? La collection Art et pensée : histoires des avant-gardes se propose de penser à nouveaux frais les problématiques liant les esthétiques de la modernité, de l’avant-garde et du postmoderne. Chaque volume répondra aux qualités ponctuelles d'objets esthétiques et culturels considérés par une perspective critique propre. Des œuvres de littérature, d’art et de réflexion y seront abordées, qui souligneront les rapports intimes de l’écriture, du visuel, de la musique, du cinéma. Les livres d’artistes ne seront pas oubliés. La collection présentera, en langue française ou anglaise, le travail critique de chercheurs établis ou en début de carrière. Elle offrira à ses lecteurs des monographies, des collections d’essais, des volumes collectifs, et des éditions nouvelles d’œuvres marquantes ou jusqu’à présent négligées, y compris les œuvres littéraires et esthétiques. Les œuvres en traduction nouvelle tout comme les travaux sur la traduction même seront vivement accueillis.

People of Print: New Histories in the Book and Print Trades is a platform for new scholarship focusing on the people behind the global print trade. The series reveals the untold stories of printers, publishers, booksellers and cultural intermediaries who have shaped the literary and cultural history of print networks worldwide. It expands the field through fresh perspectives on overlooked individuals, places and periods.　 People of Print offers a forum for both emergent and established international researchers to disseminate their scholarship. Proposals are welcome for monographs, biographies and edited collections that challenge established narratives and highlight the diversity of the book and print trades. The primary language of publication is English. All projects will undergo rigorous peer review.

The series «History of Energy» brings together diverse academic publications on questions of energy, at a time when academic approaches are undergoing profound changes. The series aims to show the variety of these approaches by publishing PhD theses, conference proceedings and other research. Actors (such as companies, states and consumers), markets and lifestyles all contribute to the global analysis developed in the series, in which all aspects of energy are considered. The series provides an outlet for new and original contributions to the history of energy.

The Postal Service, guardian of a French-styled public service, has become, under the influence of Europe, a universal service, and by its history and by its roots in its environment, presents an opportunity to reflect on the manner in which traditional and contemporary societies have resolved the issues of communication, exchanges and control of territories. Thanks to the Committee for the history of the Post-Office, researchers in the humanities and social sciences have been allowed to reflect on its past and to shed light on the changes in the societies linked within its network. Thus, now active for nearly two decades, the committee has encouraged and promoted research on the Postal Service, its «tools/instruments» of exchanges, its diplomatic agents, its politics, economy, culture and even its land settlements, without forgetting its legislative and legal aspects. This series brings together work – doctorates, acts of symposia, biographies, testimonials – in French and in English, that specifically deal with the Post-Office and, more broadly, of the problems of commerce, communications and the control of territories. It is a platform for critical analyses of a world in perpetual motion. All the publications in this collection are subject to double peer review. Gardienne d’un service public à la française devenu, sous l’influence de l’Europe, un service universel, la Poste, par son histoire et par son ancrage dans son environnement, permet de réfléchir sur la façon dont les sociétés traditionnelles et contemporaines ont résolu les questions de communication, d’échanges et de maîtrise des territoires. Grâce au Comité pour l’Histoire de la Poste, il est donné aux chercheurs en sciences humaines et sociales à réfléchir sur son passé et à éclairer les mutations des sociétés qu’elle relie grâce à son réseau. Ainsi, actif depuis plus de deux décennies, le comité suscite et encourage les recherches sur les Postes, « outils/instruments » d’échanges, et aussi agent de la diplomatie, de la politique, de l’économie, de la culture ou encore de l’aménagement des territoires, sans oublier les aspects législatifs et juridiques. Cette collection rassemble les travaux – doctorats, actes de colloques, biographies, témoignages –, en français et en anglais, traitant spécifiquement de la Poste/des postes et, de façon plus large, des problématiques des échanges, des communications et de la maîtrise des territoires. Elle se veut une plateforme d’analyses critiques d’un monde en perpétuel mouvement. Toutes les publications de cette collection sont soumises à une double évaluation à l’aveugle.

Studies in the History of Medicine provides an outlet for academic monographs devoted to both the social and the intellectual dimensions of the history of medicine. No limitations are imposed with respect to period or place, providing the approach adopted is analytical and historical. The series encourages investigations relating to previously neglected aspects of medicine and health care such as the history of nursing or other occupations associated with health care, case studies of particular disease and illness phenomena, health care in colonial and postcolonial settings, or indeed complementary medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. The monographs inevitably evaluate the impact of modern high-technology medicine, but they also give appropriate weight to health care as it relates to the elderly, the mentally ill or other vulnerable social groups. Except in special circumstances the series will not include general biographies, histories of individual institutions and organisations, or studies of parochial interest. The monographs included in this series reflect the leading edge of research in the now well-established and still expanding field of medical history.

The series provides a forum for philosophical and historical works. It is especially appropriate for projects on the history of philosophy. A key objective is to make room for philosophical topics and issues, and especially focusing on their historical and historiographical assumptions. In addition to monographs the series also contains a number of commented text editions, translations and collections of essays. Die Schriftenreihe bietet ein Forum für philosophische, philosophiegeschichtliche und historiographische Arbeiten. Ein zentrales Motiv besteht darin, philosophische Themen und Fragestellungen unter Berücksichtigung ihrer historischen bzw. historiographischen Prämissen zur Geltung zu bringen. Studies in the History of Healthcare

Studies in the History of Healthcare provides an outlet for academic monographs (sole- or multi-authored) devoted to both the social and the intellectual dimensions of the history of medicine, with a special emphasis on public health, health care and health services. The focus of the series is on the nineteenth and/or twentieth centuries, and is international in scope. The series encourages investigations into public health including environmental health, preventive medicine, responses to lifestyle diseases, and maternal and child health. It also embraces studies of health policy, health systems and state medicine, including in colonial and postcolonial settings. While studies may focus on general medicine, they would also give appropriate weight to healthcare as it relates to sectors such as indigenous peoples, older people, mentally ill and/or other vulnerable social groups. Unless they are placed in a broad context and address significant historical questions the series does not include biographies or histories of individual institutions and organisations. The monographs included in this series reflect the cutting edge of research in the now well-established and still expanding field of medical history. Studies in the History of Healthcare is a successor to Studies in the History of Medicine, formerly edited by Charles Webster.

La collection contribue à la diffusion des savoirs en histoire économique et en économie. Les ouvrages concernent toutes les périodes depuis le Moyen Âge jusqu’à nos jours. Cette collection a pour vocation d’accueillir les travaux d’auteurs français mais aussi étrangers, de chercheurs reconnus ou de jeunes universitaires ainsi que d’acteurs de la vie économique et financière, sous forme de monographies ou d’actes de colloques. Fondée en 1998 par la Direction des Archives du ministère français des Affaires étrangères, la collection « Diplomatie et Histoire » a vocation à publier des ouvrages traitant des relations internationales ; elle accueille ainsi largement les travaux de jeunes chercheurs ayant utilisé les ressources documentaires des fonds d’’archives diplomatiques. La collection couvre un large spectre typologique –– étude des relations bilatérales, biographies, édition de textes – et chronologique du Moyen-Âge à la seconde moitié du XXe siècle. Fondée en 1998 par la Direction des Archives du ministère français des Affaires étrangères, la collection « Diplomatie et Histoire » a vocation à publier des ouvrages traitant des relations internationales ; elle accueille ainsi largement les travaux de jeunes chercheurs ayant utilisé les ressources documentaires des fonds d’’archives diplomatiques. Printing History and Culture

This series unites the allied fields of global, national and local printing history and print culture, and is therefore concerned not only with the design, production and distribution of printed material but also its consumption, reception, and impact. It includes the histories of the machinery and equipment, of the industry and its personnel, of the printing processes, the design of its artefacts (books, newspapers, journals, fine prints, and ephemera) and with the related arts and crafts, including calligraphy, type-founding, typography and global scripts, papermaking, bookbinding, illustration, and publishing. It also covers the cultural context and environment in which print was produced and consumed. It is with great regret that we announce the death of Dr John Hinks (1946–2024), Series Editor of Printing History and Culture at Peter Lang. John had been ill for a while and was admitted for surgery at the start of April from which he did not recover. John was a sympathetic and conscientious editor as well as an erudite scholar in his own right with a wide-ranging interest in print culture in the eighteenth century, about which he published widely. He was also a popular figure amongst students to whom he was a compassionate and knowledgeable advisor. John possessed that rare skill of wearing his wisdom lightly and sharing it with generosity. More than that he was a kind friend and mentor who provoked affection and will be greatly missed.
