Il secolo lungo
Letteratura italiana (1796–1918) / Italian literature (1796–1918) / Littérature italienne (1796–1918)ISSN: 2034-564X
The series, directed by Claudio Gigante and Dirk Vanden Berghe, contains texts and essays on Italian literature of the nineteenth century, understood here in its widest chronological extension, from the first Napoleonic campaign until the end of the first World War; which represents as well the period in which the Risorgimento was fulfilled. The extent of the social and cultural changes that took place in the course of the nineteenth century was such as to influence the whole «Short Century» that would have immediately followed. For this reason, the Italian literary production of such a crucial phase in modern history deserves to be the subject of a specific series of studies, open to different methodological approaches but with a focus on research carried out directly on the texts. Contributions are welcome in Italian and in major European languages. All the volumes in the series «Il secolo lungo» are subject to a double blind peer review. Studies in the History of Medicine
ISSN: 1424-7933
Studies in the History of Medicine provides an outlet for academic monographs devoted to both the social and the intellectual dimensions of the history of medicine. No limitations are imposed with respect to period or place, providing the approach adopted is analytical and historical. The series encourages investigations relating to previously neglected aspects of medicine and health care such as the history of nursing or other occupations associated with health care, case studies of particular disease and illness phenomena, health care in colonial and postcolonial settings, or indeed complementary medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. The monographs inevitably evaluate the impact of modern high-technology medicine, but they also give appropriate weight to health care as it relates to the elderly, the mentally ill or other vulnerable social groups. Except in special circumstances the series will not include general biographies, histories of individual institutions and organisations, or studies of parochial interest. The monographs included in this series reflect the leading edge of research in the now well-established and still expanding field of medical history. Studies in the History of Healthcare
ISSN: 2631-522X
Studies in the History of Healthcare provides an outlet for academic monographs (sole- or multi-authored) devoted to both the social and the intellectual dimensions of the history of medicine, with a special emphasis on public health, health care and health services. The focus of the series is on the nineteenth and/or twentieth centuries, and is international in scope. The series encourages investigations into public health including environmental health, preventive medicine, responses to lifestyle diseases, and maternal and child health. It also embraces studies of health policy, health systems and state medicine, including in colonial and postcolonial settings. While studies may focus on general medicine, they would also give appropriate weight to healthcare as it relates to sectors such as indigenous peoples, older people, mentally ill and/or other vulnerable social groups. Unless they are placed in a broad context and address significant historical questions the series does not include biographies or histories of individual institutions and organisations. The monographs included in this series reflect the cutting edge of research in the now well-established and still expanding field of medical history. Studies in the History of Healthcare is a successor to Studies in the History of Medicine, formerly edited by Charles Webster.

The Literature and Poetry of Exile
ISSN: 1077-0194
This series aims to publish literary and poetic texts, as well as studies, commentaries, and interpretations of the experiences and reactions to exile. The purpose of the series is to encourage responses to those enigmatic but essential questions: What is the meaning of exile? What imaginative and concrete imagery does it evoke? This series is committed to the belief that exile is a fundamental characteristic of our age and bears witness to its existential reality. We want this series to provide a forum for writers in exile and to make it possible for their voices to be heard.

Gender and the History of Institutions
The aim of this book series is to examine the history of institutions around the world through the lens of gender. Of interest are institutions established with the specific purpose of regulating gender and sexuality (e.g. the Magdalen asylums, Magdalen hospitals, penitentiaries, refuges, mother and baby institutions) as well as those with more general purposes where gender has had an important role in their operation and function (e.g. prisons, workhouses, lunatic asylums), including both religious and private organisations. The series supports the increasing interest in these institutions internationally, both in academia and in the treatment of ‘historical’ abuse. The series highlights the range of archives that can be considered in examining this history, not only in English-speaking countries but also in countries where the institutions described above have existed and determined the lives of many people. It will also broaden the conversation by widening the scope of institutions being considered. The series has as its main objective expanding the discussion of gender in reference to these lesser known institutions. At the same time, its purpose is to provide academia with a forum for discussion and a critical approach to the concepts of gender and institutions that attract both researchers and the general public. All projects undergo rigorous peer review before acceptance for publication.

Immigration from Europe to North America
Although human beings have been migrating across the globe for millennia, mass migration to North America has occurred only in the last 200 years. Whether they came to farm the land, to practice their crafts, or to find work in newly-emerging industries, over 50 000 000 immigrants crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the last two centuries to begin a new life in the «New World». This series presents examples of the latest scholarship on mass migration from Europe to North America. It welcomes comparative studies of immigrants who went to either Canada or the United States, or both. It also features interdisciplinary studies, biographies, collected essays, and conference papers related to immigration to North America. The Yearbook on History and Interpretation of Phenomenology
The Yearbook on History and Interpretation of Phenomenology is a peer-reviewed annual. It includes contributions about the history of phenomenology because phenomenology has its own specific development anchored in the texts of Edmund Husserl, his predecessors and followers, its distinctive themes and problems set within the frame of the philosophical and scientific discussions of their period. The yearbook is open to inquiries about the interpretation of phenomenology and to different approaches towards understanding phenomenological research, its systematic and methodological insights and its possible contributions to contemporary discussions both about pure philosophy and within the context of more interdisciplinary research. It is also open to broader discussions with other philosophical schools of thought. Volume 5 terminates the series.

Histoire de l’énergie/History of Energy
ISSN: 2033-7469
The series «History of Energy» brings together diverse academic publications on questions of energy, at a time when academic approaches are undergoing profound changes. The series aims to show the variety of these approaches by publishing PhD theses, conference proceedings and other research. Actors (such as companies, states and consumers), markets and lifestyles all contribute to the global analysis developed in the series, in which all aspects of energy are considered. The series provides an outlet for new and original contributions to the history of energy.

Studies in the History and Culture of Scotland
ISSN: 1661-6863
This series presents a new reading of Scottish culture, establishing how Scots, and non-Scots, experience the devolved nation. Within the context of a rapidly changing United Kingdom and Europe, Scotland is engaged in an ongoing process of self-definition. The series will deal with this process as well as with cultural phenomena, from debates about the relative value of Gaelic-based, Scots and Anglicised culture, to period-specific definitions of Scottish identity. Orally transmitted culture – from traditional narratives to songs, customs, beliefs and material culture – will be a key consideration, along with the reconstruction of historical periods in cultural texts (visual and musical as well as historical). Taken as a whole, the series will go some way towards achieving a new understanding of a country with potential for development into parallel treatments of locally based cultural phenomena. The series welcomes monographs as well as collected papers.

Human Right Studies
Subseries: Italian Yearbook of Human RightsISSN: 2294-8848
The legal and political significance of human rights has increased enormously at the international and European levels. It has become increasingly clear that the respect and promotion of human rights must be at the centre of States and local communities' public policies and that human rights are the basis of civil society initiatives and movements. There is a large mechanism, at all levels of governance, monitoring the way in which States implement the obligations they have assumed towards each person under their sovereignty. The Italian Yearbook of Human Rights Series provides year by year, a dynamic and up-to date overview of the measures Italy has taken to adapt its legislation and policies in line with international human rights law and to comply with the commitments voluntarily assumed by the Italian Government at the international level. The book series thus intends to contribute to the continuous monitoring activity of the human rights situation in Italy undertaken at the local, national and international levels by the relevant intergovernmental and civil society actors. Each volume of this series surveys the activities carried out, during the year of reference, by the relevant national and local Italian actors, including governmental bodies, civil society organisations and universities. It also presents reports and recommendations that have been addressed to Italy by international monitoring bodies within the framework of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Union. Finally, each Yearbook provides a selection of examples from international and national case law that cast light on Italys position vis-à-vis internationally recognised human rights. The Yearbook is edited by the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Democracy and Peace of the same university, and with the support of the Region of Veneto. The Centre, established in 1982, carries out research and education following a global and interdisciplinary approach. It hosts the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on intercultural dialogue, human rights and multi-level governance.

Italian Modernities
ISSN: 1662-9108
The series aims to publish innovative research on the written, material and visual cultures and intellectual history of modern Italy, from the 19th century to the present day. It is open to a wide variety of different approaches and methodologies, disciplines and interdisciplinary fields: from literary criticism and comparative literature to archival history, from cultural studies to material culture, from film and media studies to art history. It is especially interested in work which articulates aspects of Italy's particular, and in many respects, peculiar, interactions with notions of modernity and postmodernity, broadly understood. It also aims to encourage critical dialogue between new developments in scholarship in Italy and in the English-speaking world. The Italian Modernities series also includes the Panoramas sub-series. These volumes provide accessible, wide-ranging, research-led accounts of significant new trends, emerging fields of study and new methodologies within work on modern Italian culture, history and related disciplines.
