Gender and the History of Institutions

The aim of this book series is to examine the history of institutions around the world through the lens of gender. Of interest are institutions established with the specific purpose of regulating gender and sexuality (e.g. the Magdalen asylums, Magdalen hospitals, penitentiaries, refuges, mother and baby institutions) as well as those with more general purposes where gender has had an important role in their operation and function (e.g. prisons, workhouses, lunatic asylums), including both religious and private organisations. The series supports the increasing interest in these institutions internationally, both in academia and in the treatment of ‘historical’ abuse. The series highlights the range of archives that can be considered in examining this history, not only in English-speaking countries but also in countries where the institutions described above have existed and determined the lives of many people. It will also broaden the conversation by widening the scope of institutions being considered. The series has as its main objective expanding the discussion of gender in reference to these lesser known institutions. At the same time, its purpose is to provide academia with a forum for discussion and a critical approach to the concepts of gender and institutions that attract both researchers and the general public. All projects undergo rigorous peer review before acceptance for publication.

Aspects linguistiques et culturels des discours spécialisés

Cette collection a pour objet de promouvoir l’’étude des domaines spécialisés à travers les aspects linguistiques, discursifs et culturels qui permettent de les caractériser. Elle accueillera des travaux de recherche rédigés en français qui aborderont des domaines disciplinaires ou professionnels dans une perspective synchronique ou diachronique par le biais de la terminologie, la linguistique, la stylistique, l’’analyse du discours ou d’’un genre particulier. Elle s’’adresse à des chercheurs intéressés par les langues de spécialité, qu’’ils soient spécialistes de langues étrangères, de l’’un des axes précédemment évoqués ou encore de traduction. Les analyses pourront porter, à titre d’’exemples, sur la néologie, les métaphores constitutives de la théorie d’’un domaine, les aspects rhétoriques, l’’analyse des éléments des discours spécialisés, l’’histoire des idées pour un domaine donné à travers les concepts et leur dénomination, l’’étude des normes et contraintes en vigueur dans un milieu spécialisé à travers le/les discours. Cette collection accueillera des monographies ou des ouvrages collectifs rassemblant des articles sur un thème donné. Dans les deux cas, les tapuscrits soumis seront évalués de manière anonyme par deux spécialistes du domaine. Zentrales Anliegen der „Schriftenreihe des Instituts für Management und Tourismus“ ist es, im Bereich der Betriebswirtschaftslehre bei wissenschaftlicher Fundierung tourismusbezogene Erkenntnisse mit Anwendungsorientierung und Problemlösungsanspruch zu vermitteln. Die Reihe zeigt anhand konkreter Fragestellungen beispielhaft auf, wie die Tourismuswirtschaft neuen Marktkonstellationen und komplexen Herausforderungen begegnen kann. Das Spektrum der Veröffentlichungen reicht von Projekt- und Forschungsberichten bis hin zu Sammelbänden mit Artikeln von Wissenschaftlern und Praktikern. Analog zur Betrachtung des interdisziplinären Forschungsgegenstandes Tourismus an der Fachhochschule Westküste und dem dort angesiedelten Institut für Management und Tourismus liegt der Reihe ein betriebswirtschaftlicher Fokus zugrunde. Unter diesem konzeptionellen Dach fungiert die „Schriftenreihe des IMT“ als zentrale touristische Veröffentlichungsplattform der Fachhochschule Westküste.

The series of books entitled Veröffentlichungen des Instituts für Energie- und Regulierungsrecht Berlin, published by the Institute for Energy and Regulatory Law in Berlin, presents studies carried out within the Department of Law. The editor Professor Franz Jürgen Säcker has hereby established a platform for the publication of monographs and anthologies in collaboration with the Free University of Berlin. The series had previously been published as Veröffentlichungen des Instituts für deutsches und europäisches Wirtschafts-, Wettbewerbs- und Regulierungsrecht der Freien Universität Berlin. Die Buchreihe Veröffentlichungen des Instituts für Energie- und Regulierungsrecht Berlin präsentiert Studien aus dem Fachbereich der Rechtswissenschaft. Der Herausgeber Professor Franz Jürgen Säcker, schafft hier in Zusammenarbeit mit der Freien Universität Berlin eine Plattform für Monographien und Sammelbände. Géopolitique et résolution des conflits / Geopolitics and Conflict Resolution

This series welcomes contributions seeking to analyse the geopolitical changes which have been such a prominent feature of the European and world arena since 1989. At the European level, there is a particular focus on post-Cold War conflicts along with the transformation which has occurred in relations between the European Union and major powers. At a world level, major upheavals have radically altered the ground rules for understanding conflicts and crises. They have also had far-reaching implications for the prevention, management and resolution of disputes. In this context, the series is open to theoretical and empirical studies which critically examine the international implications and progress of specific conflicts and peace processes. The scientific board of the «Geopolitics and Conflict Resolution» series is made up of the members of the Centre d'études des crises et des conflits internationaux of the Université catholique de Louvain (CECRI-UCL) and of the «EU-Russia» and «EU-China» Baillet Latour Chairs UCL-KUL. Cette collection accueille des travaux dont l’objectif est d’analyser les changements géopolitiques ayant marqué la scène européenne et mondiale depuis 1989. Au niveau européen, une attention particulière est consacrée aux conflits post-guerre froide ainsi qu’à la transformation des relations entre l’Union européenne et les grandes puissances. Au niveau mondial, d’intenses bouleversements ont radicalement modifié les grilles de lecture des crises et des conflits, qu’il s’agisse de la prévention, de la gestion ou de la résolution de ceux-ci. Dans cette perspective, la collection est ouverte aux réflexions théoriques et aux études empiriques portant sur le déroulement et les implications internationales de conflits et processus de paix spécifiques. La collection « Géopolitique et résolution des conflits » réunit dans son équipe éditoriale les membres du Centre d’études des crises et des conflits internationaux de l’Université catholique de Louvain (CECRI-UCL) et des Chaires Baillet Latour « Union européenne – Russie » et « Union européenne – Chine » UCL-KUL.

Institutionelle und Sozial-Ökonomie / Institutional and Socio-Economics

"In the "Institutional and Socio-Economics" book series, the economy is studied as a genuinely social system of heterogeneous agents in an institutional context. The series includes a broad range of different methodological approaches, theoretical perspectives and subjects of study. Interdependencies among agents in complex social systems can be studied using evolutionary economic models, as well as institutional economic and simulation studies. Hence, the focus is being laid on approaches that are more explorative than the standard equilibrium analysis; on approaches that allow for complexity; on approaches that consider development, history, institutions, and values. Thus, we may conclude that institutions are more than just devices for the reduction of transaction costs. From an institutionalist perspective, institutions are the common and collective solutions to social decision problems, particularly social dilemma problems, coordination problems, and collective-good problems. Such solutions require ‘recognized interdependence’ and learned coordination and cooperation, thus a learned culture of a long-run perspective – emerging as the result of a process of interactions. Institutions often are transitory only, part of the ongoing dynamics, adequately modeled possibly as an evolutionary process. Also, they may be instrumental solutions to a social decision problem at first and may degenerate into ceremonial power-and-status-based phenomena later, thus limiting the possibility of further innovation and development. In a genealogy of economics, the thematic and methodological spectrum of this book series would embrace the history of thought beginning with the classics including great names such as Adam Smith and Karl Marx but also the late classics who already have struggled with issues like complexity, process, historical time, and evolution. In newer times, the spectrum continues with Veblenian, Keynesian, and Post-Keynesian thinking; it would also include works in the traditions of original institutionalist economics, ecological economics, Neo-Schumpeterian thinking, evolutionary economics, and game theory. Social economics and social policy analysis, behavioral economics, complex modeling, system dynamics, and agent-based computational economics would be embraced as well. Such lists, however, can never be exhaustive. Last not least, institutional and socio-economics deals with the epistemology and substance of values, norms and ethics, value warrants of economic behavior as well as the normative foundations of economics. This series, thus, stands in the best traditions of plural economic research areas and pluralistic theoretical perspectives. It may be called ’heterodox’, but it shall always be cutting-edge and of high quality. Enjoy exploring the works of this book series. In newer times, the spectrum continues with Veblenian, Keynesian, and Post-Keynesian thinking; it would also include works in the traditions of original institutionalist economics, ecological economics, Neo-Schumpeterian thinking, evolutionary economics, and game theory. Social economics and social policy analysis, behavioral economics, complex modeling, system dynamics, and agent-based computational economics would be embraced as well. Such lists, however, can never be exhaustive. Last not least, institutional and socio-economics deals with the epistemology and substance of values, norms and ethics, value warrants of economic behavior as well as the normative foundations of economics. This series, thus, stands in the best traditions of plural economic research areas and pluralistic theoretical perspectives.
