The series Jewish Music Studies publishes monographs and edited collections on Jewish music in all its diverse manifestations: from synagogue chants and paraliturgical traditions to the secular/popular music of Jews in various cultural contexts and eras. Books in this series encompass a broad range of subjects with a special focus on music’s use in social, religious and cultural life of Jews around the globe. Topics also include Jewish performers, composers and researchers; Jewish music and migration; Israeli music/music in Israel; Jewish music education; music and ethnicity, gender; and political issues. Pegisha – Begegnung / Pegisha – Encounters

The series Pegisha Encounters. Jewish Studies is a forum for connecting inquiries on literary theory and philosophy with studies of Jewish culture. Its editor is the comparatist Dorothee Gelhard. Special emphasis will be placed on experiences of European modernity. Volumes concerning topics such as cultural remembrance, assimilation or secularization will also be included. Manuscript proposals may be sent directly to the editor. Die Reihe Pegisha Begegnung. Jüdische Studien ist ein Forum, um Studien über jüdische Kultur mit literaturtheoretischen und philosophischen Fragestellungen zu verbinden. Sie wird von der Komparatistin Dorothee Gelhard herausgegeben. Die Erfahrungen mit der europäischen Moderne stehen dabei im Vordergrund. Aufgenommen werden auch Bände, die sich mit Themen wie kultureller Erinnerung, Assimilation oder Säkularisation beschäftigen. Manuskriptvorschläge direkt an die Herausgeberin sind möglich.

Immigration from Europe to North America

Although human beings have been migrating across the globe for millennia, mass migration to North America has occurred only in the last 200 years. Whether they came to farm the land, to practice their crafts, or to find work in newly-emerging industries, over 50 000 000 immigrants crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the last two centuries to begin a new life in the «New World». This series presents examples of the latest scholarship on mass migration from Europe to North America. It welcomes comparative studies of immigrants who went to either Canada or the United States, or both. It also features interdisciplinary studies, biographies, collected essays, and conference papers related to immigration to North America.
