Literarisches Leben heute

Literarisches Leben heute setzt sich wissenschaftlich mit gegenwärtig publizierenden Autoren auseinander. Zudem sucht die Reihe den Dialog mit diesen Autoren, indem sie in einem überschaubaren Umfang Texte zu einzelnen Persönlichkeiten, Institutionen oder Phänomenen des Literarischen Lebens publiziert. Dabei bemüht sich die Reihe, die Vielfalt der Gegenwartsliteratur exemplarisch zu dokumentieren, indem sie z.B. auch Kinder- und Jugendliteratur und populäre literarische Formate berücksichtigt. Die Reihe ist nicht auf gängige wissenschaftliche Publikationsformate festgelegt, sondern versammelt ebenso auch Interviews mit Schriftstellern und Essays von künstlerischen Wegbegleitern und anderen Persönlichkeiten des Literarischen Lebens. "WE ARE THE STORIES WE TELL. The series "Education and Struggle" focuses on conflict as a discursive process where people struggle for legitimacy and the narrative process becomes a political struggle for meaning. But this series will also include the voices of authors and activists who are involved in conflicts over material necessities in their communities, schools, places of worship, and public squares as part of an ongoing search for dignity, self-determination and autonomy. This series focuses on conflict and struggle within the realm of educational politics based around a series of interrelated themes: indigenous struggles; western-Islamic conflicts; globalization and the clash of worldviews; neoliberalism as the war within;colonization and neocolonization; the coloniality of power and decolonial pedagogy; war and conflict and the struggle for liberation. It publishes narrative accounts of specific struggles as well as theorizing "conflict narratives" and the political production of meaning in educational studies. During this time of global conflict and the crisis of capitalism, Education and Struggle promises to be on the cutting edge of social, cultural, educational and political transformation. Central to the series is the idea that language is essentially a dialogical production that is formed through a process of social conflict and interaction. The aim is to focus on key semiotic, literary andpolitical concepts as a basis for a philosophy of language and culture where the underlying materialist philosophy of language and culture serves as the basis for the larger project that we might call dialogism (after Bakhtin’s usage). As the late V.N. Volosinov suggests “Without signs there is no ideology”, “Everything ideological possesses semiotic value” and “individual consciousness is a socio-ideological fact”. It is a small step to claim, therefore, “consciousness itself can arise and become a viable fact only in the material embodiment of signs”. This series is a vehicle for materialist semiotics in the narrative and dialogue of education and struggle."

Modern Poetry

The Modern Poetry series brings together scholarly work on modern and contemporary poetry. As well as examining the sometimes neglected art of recent poetry, this series also sets modern poetry in the context of poetic history and in the context of other literary and artistic disciplines. Poetry has traditionally been considered the highest of the arts, but in our own time the scholarly tendency to treat literature as discourse or document sometimes threatens to obscure its specific vitalities. The Modern Poetry series aims to provide a platform for the full range of scholarly work on modern poetry, including work with an intercultural or interdisciplinary methodology. We invite submissions on all aspects of modern and contemporary poetry in English, and will also consider work on poetry in other language traditions. The series is non-dogmatic in its approach, and includes both mainstream and marginal topics. We are especially interested in work which brings new intellectual impetus to recognised areas (such as feminist poetry and linguistically innovative poetry) and also in work that makes a stimulating case for areas which are neglected.

Studien zur Ethik in Ostmitteleuropa

Die Reihe Studien zur Ethik in Ostmitteleuropa unternimmt es, die Diskussion über ethische Überzeugungen insbesondere in und mit den vor 1989 vom westlichen Europa getrennten Ländern zu fördern und die vorfindlichen Argumentationszusammenhänge zu an alysieren. Dabei werden vor allem die folgenden Felder der Ethik berücksichtigt: Medizinethik, Wirtschaftsethik, Rechtsethik, Politische Ethik und Geschichte der Ethik. Verbunden sind die Erörterungen regelmäßig mit einem Vergleich zwischen den unter schiedlichen Entwicklungen auf dem Weg zu einem politisch und rechtlich vereinten Europa, auf dem die ethischen Befindlichkeiten und Überzeugungen der Völker nicht außer Acht gelassen werden sollten.

In der Reihe "Europäische Wallfahrtsstudien" werden Beiträge aus dem Bereich der Theologie und Religionswissenschaft veröffentlicht. Dabei enthalten die Monographien und Sammelbände auch Studien zu dem Gebiet der Archäologie und Kunstwissenschaft. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei Forschungen, die sich der europäischen Wallfahrtskultur vom Mittelalter über die Reformation bis heute widmen. Die Forschungsschwerpunkte der Herausgeber sind Theologie und Archäologie.

AEJMC - Peter Lang Scholarsourcing Series

Based on the concept of crowdsourcing, Scholarsourcing is a joint publishing initiative between the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and Peter Lang Publishing. The series reimagines the way that scholarly books are proposed, peer-reviewed, and approved for contract during this time of relentless change in both the journalism and publishing industries. Beginning with a call from AEJMC each fall, members are invited to submit short book proposals that are relevant to journalism and communication and speak to the mission of AEJMC. Proposals are uploaded to an online public platform that allows as many AEJMC members as possible to browse, review, and then vote on and pledge support. This platform encourages public dialogue among multiple parties to improve the potential of each book project. Whether awarded a book contract or not, authors benefit by receiving a valuable set of review comments, far more than they might receive via conventional reviewing processes, and from a more diverse range of reviewers (members). Using these votes and review comments, the AEJMC Scholarsourcing editorial committee, appointed by the president of AEJMC, selects the top proposals. The authors of the top proposals are invited to submit complete book proposals. Once those reviews have been evaluated by the editorial committee and the publisher, a decision on which proposals receive contracts is made.

Until the publication of volume 21 the title of the series was "Polish Contemporary Philosophy and Philosophical Humanities". The series aspires to present a wide and relevant overview of best Polish works in philosophy and philosophical parts of the major fields of the humanities: political and social sciences, history, religious studies or what is named in Poland "the history of ideas". The subsequent editions of books within this series are either re-editions of the works previously published in non-Polish versions, or new translations from Polish. Some books contain extended works, other ones provide collections of smaller papers. Some of the authors presented in the series are widely acknowledged and regarded to be the "classics" of Polish intellectual life in the second half of the 20th Century, others are recognized as outstanding professors today. The quality and fame of the works and authors presented in the series are the only criteria for inclusion. The series is open to all streams of Polish philosophy: from analytical philosophy, through phenomenology and hermeneutics, to existential or religious philosophies. Also the word "philosophy" should be understood very widely in this case.
