New Trends in Translation Studies

In today’'s globalised society, translation and interpreting are gaining visibility and relevance as a means to foster communication and dialogue in increasingly multicultural and multilingual environments. Practised since time immemorial, both activities have become more complex and multifaceted in recent decades, intersecting with many other disciplines. New Trends in Translation Studies is an international series with the main objectives of promoting the scholarly study of translation and interpreting and of functioning as a forum for the translation and interpreting research community. This series publishes research on subjects related to multimedia translation and interpreting, in their various social roles. It is primarily intended to engage with contemporary issues surrounding the new multidimensional environments in which translation is flourishing, such as audiovisual media, the internet and emerging new media and technologies. It sets out to reflect new trends in research and in the profession, to encourage flexible methodologies and to promote interdisciplinary research ranging from the theoretical to the practical and from the applied to the pedagogical. New Trends in Translation Studies publishes translation- and interpreting-oriented books that present high-quality scholarship in an accessible, reader-friendly manner. The series embraces a wide range of publications – monographs, edited volumes, conference proceedings and translations of works in translation studies which do not exist in English. The editor, Professor Jorge Díaz-Cintas, welcomes proposals from all those interested in being involved with the series. The working language of the series is English, although in exceptional circumstances works in other languages can be considered for publication. Proposals dealing with specialised translation, translation tools and technology, audiovisual translation and the field of accessibility to the media are particularly welcomed. This series is based at the Centre for Translation Studies (CenTraS), University College London.

"Both at home and abroad religion is recognized as an important factor in many aspects of life-political, cultural, and economic. To assist an informed public debate, this series publishes innovative studies of unquestionably high standards of scholarship an the role of religion and religiously motivated convictions in politics and public life. Preference is given to interdisciplinary and comparative approaches that explore the historical, conceptual, and normative issues that come to bear an the political and public rote of religion, as well as the nature of values and structures of arguments relevant to general policy concerns. The books in this series include monographs, anthologies, and textbooks. They are of particular lnterest to political scientists, historians, philosophers, theologians, and legal and social analysts. Three ideas guide this series: (1) The role of religion in the making of public policy has become and is likely to remain a subject of considerable debate in American society; (2) Despite a political and constitutional tradition that separates religion and government, there is neither conceptual clarity nor political consensus an how to resolve the many dilemmas created by the presence of religion in the public sphere; (3) There is an urgent need to develop interdisciplinary models for understanding the rote, if any, that religion ought to play in our political and public lives. "

Restoration Drama

This series attempts to illustrate the richness and diversity of Restoration drama, a thriving theatrical production which has been long overshadowed by the brilliance of the Age of Shakespeare. The aim of the collection is to bring to light dramatic texts that have not attracted much critical attention but display the most popular generic formulas of the time and introduce a wide array of suggestive topics. The series consists of modern spelling, fully annotated editions, complete with textual commentary, glosses, as well as historical, cultural and literary references. Each of the volumes includes a critical introduction which places the text in context, discussing aspects such as authorship, the play’s response to the historical circumstances of the time, its use of theatrical conventions and stage history.

Ibero-American Screens / Pantallas Iberoamericanas

This series approaches the Ibero-American audiovisual field—cinema and television—from an interdisciplinary perspective, with special emphasis on studies stemming from Media Studies and Cultural Studies. We are especially interested in those volumes that examine audiovisual production in the Iberian Peninsula and/or Latin America from a comparative perspective. In addition, the collection will include studies on the production, distribution and circulation of audiovisual artifacts in the digital era. Consequently, we include works that explore the relationship between audiovisual media and other fields of popular culture, such as music and sports. We accept both theoretical proposals on audiovisual media and historical approaches that scrutinize a specific period of cinema or television in one or several geopolitical spaces. The series includes volumes on industrials aspects and political economy and reflections on key aspects for the articulation of both national and transnational imaginaries, such as memory and representational templates. The featured volumes can be monographs or collections of essays by different authors, in Spanish or English. Esta colección se acerca al ámbito audiovisual iberoamericano—cine y televisión— desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar, con especial énfasis en estudios provenientes de la Comunicación y los Estudios Culturales. Son de especial interés aquellos volúmenes que examinen la producción audiovisual de la Península Ibérica y/o Latinoamérica desde una perspectiva comparativa. Además, son especialmente relevantes aquellos estudios que aborden las transformaciones en la producción, distribución y circulación de los artefactos audiovisuales en la era digital. Por consiguiente, se incluyen trabajos que exploren la relación del audiovisual con otros campos de la cultura popular, como la música y deportes. Se aceptan propuestas de carácter teórico sobre diversos ámbitos del audiovisual y volúmenes de cariz más histórico que abordan un periodo concreto del cine o televisión de uno o varios espacios geopolíticos. La colección incluye tanto volúmenes que se centren en aspectos industriales o de economía política como reflexiones sobre temas clave en la articulación de imaginarios colectivos nacionales o transnacionales como la memoria y la representación. Los libros pueden ser manuscritos monográficos o colecciones de ensayos de diversos autores, en español o inglés.

Die Buchreihe Historia y contacto en textos indorrománicos widmet sich linguistischen Untersuchungen zu hispano- und lusoamerikanischen Sprachgemeinschaften, in denen sich im Laufe der Zeit klar idiosynkratische Merkmale herausgebildet haben. Das Ziel der Reihe besteht sowohl darin die verschiedenen aktuellen Sprachsituationen in diesen Kommunikationsräumen als auch die verschiedenen Stadien der Herausbildung und Entwicklung der amerikanischen Sprachgemeinschaften zu beschreiben und zu analysieren. Die Beschreibung und Analyse basieren auf der Arbeit mit direkten und metasprachlichen Quellen sowie deren notwendiger soziohistorischer und kultureller Kontextualisierung. La colección Historia y contacto en textos indorrománicos reúne estudios lingüísticos dedicados a espacios comunicativos hispano y lusoamericanos, en los que las comunidades de habla han ido formando a través del tiempo claros rasgos idiosincrásicos. Se pretende describir y analizar tanto las diversas situaciones lingüísticas actuales en estos espacios comunicativos como también los diferentes estadios de formación y evolución de las comunidades de habla americanas. Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT)

Desde el cambio de paradigma que supone la noción teórica de paratraducción, creada por el Grupo de investigación Traducción & Paratraducción (T&P) de la Universidade de Vigo (España), la colección Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT), dirigida por José Yuste Frías y Óscar Ferreiro Vázquez, invita a reflexionar de manera transdisciplinar sobre la transtextualidad, en general, y la paratextualidad, muy en particular, en los procesos transmediales de la comunicación internacional entre diferentes lenguas (interlinguas) y culturas. Los principales objetos de estudio de ParatradIT son los soportes materiales transmediáticos, los procesos, los modos, las técnicas, las estrategias, las instituciones, las herramientas tecnológicas, las inteligencias artificiales y los seres humanos que hacen posible las transferencias lingüísticas y culturales tanto en pantalla como en papel. ParatradIT acoge publicaciones temáticas centradas no sólo sobre el área de traducción e interpretación, sino también sobre áreas afines como, por ejemplo, la didáctica de lenguas extranjeras y pedagogía de segundas lenguas en la mediación entre culturas. ParatradIT es una colección siempre abierta a los cambios teóricos, didácticos y profesionales que pueden surgir en los diferentes sectores estratégicos de la traducción, como, por poner tan sólo un ejemplo, el sector de la industria del videojuego donde nuevas formas paratextuales ayudan a crear nuevas narrativas transmedia ludográficas en pantalla que suponen nuevos retos de transcreación en la localización de videojuegos. Since the paradigm shift represented by the theoretical notion of paratranslation, created by the Research Group Traducción & Paratraducción (T&P) (T&P), from the University of Vigo (Spain), the series Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT), edited by José Yuste Frías and Óscar Ferreiro Vázquez, invites interdisciplinary reflection on intertextuality, in general, and paratextuality, specifically, in transmedia processes for international communication among different languages (interlinguas) and cultures. The main objects of study of ParatradIT are the transmedia materials support, processes, modes, techniques, strategies, institutions, technological tools, artificial intelligences, and humans that enable linguistic and cultural transfers, both on screen and on paper. ParatradIT hosts themed publications not only in the field of translation and interpretation, but also in related fields such as foreign language teaching and second language pedagogy in cross-cultural mediation. The series ParatradIT is always open to theoretical, didactic and professional changes in different strategic sectors of translation, such as the video game industry, where new paratextual forms help create different ludographic transmedia narratives on screen, posing new challenges in the transcreation of video game localization.
