Im Zeitalter der Globalisierung lässt sich Public Health nicht mehr allein innerhalb von nationalen Grenzen betreiben: Migration, soziale Ungleichheit, Pandemien, abnehmende Trinkwasservorräte und steigender Tabakkonsum sind nur einige Beispiele für eine Vielzahl von neuen Herausforderungen, die einen weiter reichenden, internationalen Blick erfordern. Kernpunkte für Public Health sind dabei die international vergleichende Analyse von Gesundheitsproblemen und möglichen Lösungsansätzen sowie die wissenschaftlich basierte und gerechte Ausgestaltung von Gesundheitssystemen. The series Gdańsk Studies in Language focuses on all areas of theoretical and applied linguistics, especially on semantics, pragmatics, historical linguistics, first and second language acquisition, English language teaching, ethnolinguistics and translation. In the series, we publish monographs (including outstanding doctoral dissertations) submitted not only by scholars affiliated with the University of Gdańsk, but also by researchers representing other academic centres in Europe and elsewhere. Collections of papers are considered for publication as well. The language of the series is English.

Sprachkönnen und Sprachbewusstheit in Europa / Language Competence and Language Awareness in Europe

The series Language Competence and Language Awareness in Europe unites interdisciplinary linguistic research with a thematic focus on multilingualism, linguistic choices and linguistic variability, language contact processes in Europe – and beyond its boundaries – as well as situated speech practices and literacy skills in private and public spaces. The series editor Amei Koll-Stobbe welcomes manuscript proposals, especially data orientated analyses of language competence cum performance with a priority on basic research (without any restrictions regarding theoretical and methodological frameworks). Prior to publication, the quality of the works published in this series is reviewed by external referees appointed by the editor. In der Buchreihe Sprachkönnen und Sprachbewusstsein in Europa erscheinen vorwiegend Sammelbände aus Linguistik und Anglistik. Der thematische Fokus liegt auf der Sprachkontaktlinguistik, auf Aspekten von Sprachwahl und Sprachvariabilität in nationalen Sprachgrenzen – oder über diese hinweg – sowie auf situierten Sprachpraktiken (und literacy skills) in privaten und öffentlichen Räumen. Die Herausgeberin Amei Koll-Stobbe freut sich über Publikationsvorschläge v.a. aus dem Bereich der datenorientierten Analyse von sprachlicher Kompetenz cum Performanz mit einer grundlagenforschungsorientierten Ausrichtung (Beschränkungen auf bestimmte Untersuchungsmethoden oder Rahmentheorien gibt es nicht). Die Qualität der in dieser Reihe erscheinenden Arbeiten wird vor der Publikation durch externe, von der Herausgeberin benannte Gutachter geprüft.

The monographs and collected volumes of the series focus on Corpus Linguistics, Pragmatics and Language Pedagogy, with such various topics as the cognitive aspects of Linguistics, identity via language, trends in Linguistics and Translational Studies and language and media.

"Both at home and abroad religion is recognized as an important factor in many aspects of life-political, cultural, and economic. To assist an informed public debate, this series publishes innovative studies of unquestionably high standards of scholarship an the role of religion and religiously motivated convictions in politics and public life. Preference is given to interdisciplinary and comparative approaches that explore the historical, conceptual, and normative issues that come to bear an the political and public rote of religion, as well as the nature of values and structures of arguments relevant to general policy concerns. The books in this series include monographs, anthologies, and textbooks. They are of particular lnterest to political scientists, historians, philosophers, theologians, and legal and social analysts. Three ideas guide this series: (1) The role of religion in the making of public policy has become and is likely to remain a subject of considerable debate in American society; (2) Despite a political and constitutional tradition that separates religion and government, there is neither conceptual clarity nor political consensus an how to resolve the many dilemmas created by the presence of religion in the public sphere; (3) There is an urgent need to develop interdisciplinary models for understanding the rote, if any, that religion ought to play in our political and public lives. "

The series contains empirical as well as theoretical findings from the field of language acquisition research. Contributions from disciplines like psycholinguistics, applied linguistics and language learning and teaching combine to provide a cross-sectional perspective. The focus is on first and second language acquisition, bilingualism and the multilingual classroom. Die Schriftenreihe umfasst empirische sowie theoretische Beiträge zur Sprachlern- und Spracherwerbsforschung. Die Reihe verbindet interdisziplinär Forschung aus den Bereichen Psycholinguistik, Angewandte Linguistik und Fremdsprachendidaktik. Besondere thematische Schwerpunkte sind Erst-/Zweit- und Fremdspracherwerb sowie Bilingualität und Mehrsprachigkeit im schulischen Umfeld.
