Hip Hop Studies and Activism book series is the first ever book series dedicated to hip hop studies. This series is an intersectional, interdisciplinary liberatory project that promotes justice, equity, and inclusion. Hip Hop Studies and Activism book series will connect with a broad range of disciplines such as feminism, globalization, economics, science, history, environmental studies, media studies, political science, sociology, religion, anthropology, philosophy, education, and cultural studies. Against apolitical scholarship, Hip Hop studies argues for an engaged critical praxis that promotes the listening and defending space and place for marginalized and silenced communities especially Communities of Color and Youth of Color. Hip hop activism is committed to social action, advocacy, and activism, while other book series are more rooted in theory and apolitical analysis. We will therefore, make a strong effort to publish People and Youth of Color.

In Professionen lässt sich die Berufsausübung nur sehr begrenzt standardisieren. Es muss eine den Fall in seiner Gesamtheit würdigende Behandlung eingerichtet werden. Dies setzt ein Verstehen der Fallprob-lematik voraus. Dafür sind diagnostische bzw. fallverstehende Kompetenzen nötig, die durch die Einübung in rekonstruktive Methoden des Fallverstehens vermittelt werden können. Neben dieser Vermittlung in der Ausbildung ist die professionelle Praxis auf eine die Fallintervention rekonstruierende Evaluation ange-wiesen, um eine bestimmte Intervention zu überprüfen und wenn nötig auch andere Möglichkeiten zu finden. Darüber hinaus bieten sich fallrekonstruktive Vorgehensweisen in der Forschung zur Untersu-chung von verschiedenen, insbesondere professionalisierungstheoretischen, Fragestellungen an. Weil diese Verfahren in den Professionen trotz ihrer Leistungsfähigkeit noch relativ wenig bekannt sind, soll mit der Reihe zur Verbreitung solcher Ansätze beigetragen werden. Besonders wichtig sind sie in Medizin, Jurisprudenz, Theologie, Pädagogik, Psychologie, Polizei, Kriminologie, Sozialarbeit, Sozialpädagogik, Supervision, Organisationsberatung, Soziologie, Politologie, Ethnologie sowie bei gestaltenden und künst-lerischen Berufen. Die Reihe umfasst Forschungsberichte, Sammelbände, Tagungsdokumentationen, Dissertationen, Habili-tationen und Lehrbücher in deutscher und englischer Sprache.

«Religions and Discourse» explores religious language in the major world faiths from various viewpoints, including semiotics, pragmatics and cognitive linguistics, and reflects on how it is situated within wider intellectual and cultural contexts. In particular a key issue is the role of figurative speech. Many fascinating metaphors originate in religion e.g. revelation as a ‘garment’, apostasy as ‘adultery’, loving kindness as the ‘circumcision of the heart’. Every religion rests its specific orientations upon symbols such as these, to name but a few. The series strives after the interdisciplinary approach that brings together such diverse disciplines as religious studies, theology, sociology, philosophy, linguistics and literature, guided by an international editorial board of scholars representative of the aforementioned disciplines. Though scholarly in its scope, the series also seeks to facilitate discussions pertaining to central religious issues in contemporary contexts. The series will publish monographs and collected essays of a high scholarly standard.

Studies in Biblical Hebrew is series of monographs designed to promote and publish topical research into the Hebrew of the Old Testament. The series does not assume that Biblical Hebrew is a form of the Aramaic languages (Canaanite) spoken from c. 1200 B.C. to c. 200 B.C., given standardized form only later and then perpetuated as a fixed literary medium. The focus of the series is specifically the corpus of the Old Testament, since the composition and compilation of these writings continue to generate major interest worldwide for reasons historical and academic, as well as religious. In the past few years, our political, cultural, and media landscapes have cultivated a sharp, notable rise of media activism, more representations of diverse groups and characters, and the need for intersectional approaches to media studies. The #MeToo campaign, the 2017 and 2018 Women’s Marches, Black Lives Matter marches, cross-border anti-feminicide activist marches, immigration marches, and increased representation of diverse sexual identities, racial/ethnic groups, and gender identities are evidence of the need for continued research on cultural media studies topics. The Peter Lang Cultural Media Studies Book Series is accepting book proposals for both proposed book and fully developed manuscripts on a rolling basis for media studies books that explore media production, media consumption, media effects, and media representations of feminism(s), race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and related topics.

Teaching Critical Themes in American History

In the United States, the Common Core Standards, the C3 Frame-work for Social Studies Standards (NCSS), and the 10 themes of the National Curriculum Standards (NCS/NCSS) each pose challenges for teachers preparing to teach skills, content, and critical issues of American history. The problem for many middle and secondary teachers is that textbooks do not contain sufficient primary source documents and varied secondary literature linked to these stand-ards. Critical Studies in Democracy and Political Literacy

Why do so few people vote? What is political engagement? How does education intersect with democracy and political literacy? What can be learned from interdisciplinary studies on democracy? How do we cultivate political literacy? What is the relevance of elections in light of war, poverty, discrimination, social inequalities, etc.? What are the alternatives to the traditional electoral, representative, party-politics models that have characterized our societies? Is the mainstream media holding government to account, disseminating propaganda or fuelling the need to pacify the population? How do international systems, approaches and realities related to democracy compare, and what can we learn from others? These are some of the questions that are addressed through this book series. Seeking to fill an important gap in the literature, this book series takes on the theme of democracy in a multi-/inter-disciplinary, comprehensive, and critical way. Some books have democracy in the title but do not make it the focus, and often books that address more directly, for example, multiculturalism, media studies, or school reform may delve into the area of democracy without fully deconstructing what it is, how it functions, how people can shape and intersect with it, and how it is used (or misused) to distort power relations, which is at the base of teaching, learning and action. Thus, a broader range of materials specifically tailored to teacher-education and scholars within the education field is desirable. Similarly, the overlapping and interdisciplinary nature of the study of democracy bleeds naturally into the areas of media studies, sociology, political science, peace studies, multiculturalism, feminist studies, and cultural studies, etc., all of which have a natural and inextricable relationship to and within education.

This new series is a forum for the investigation and analysis of the contested terrain between culture, gender, and sexuality. Titles in the series can include, but are not limited to, (re)theorizations of gender in relation to, or its constitution through, sexuality, race, dass, or culture, studies of sexuality and sexual identity that produce new understandings of gender, or new inquiries into culture, broadly defined, that raise competting implications for the ways in which we think about gender and sexuality in the contemporary social world. Of particular interest are manuscripts that cirtique and/or broaden traditional constructions of gender and take into account sexuality, race, dass, or the pressures of other constitutive categories, analyze nonwestern literary and cultural representations of gender and their relationship to sexuality, especially in postcolonial contexts, and theorize transgender from feminist, queer, postcolonial, or cultural studies frameworks.
