The volumes in the Studies in Modern European History series focus upon aspects of the political, social, economic, cultural, and religious history of Europe from the Renaissance to the present, including the political and economic integration of the continent and the resurgence of Europe following the Cold War. Emphasis is placed not only on the states of Western Europe, especially Great Britain, France, Italy, and Germany but also the states of Eastern Europe, following the collapse of Communism. European integration is a profound phenomenon influencing our current understanding of political and social processes in Europe and beyond. The set of European institutions that have now functioned in the continent for over half a century have created new broadened frames of reference for a variety of social actors. The most comprehensive is the European Union, which can be characterised as a multilevel polity. The other organisations, such as the Council of Europe and OSCE, also contribute significantly to the new mode of relations in Europe. This has in turn influenced how social and political actors act and define their roles. European integration has changed the functioning of states, their sovereignty and the meaning and status of borders, as well as the nature of citizenship. It has also allowed social actors to be engaged in the increasingly transnationalised public sphere and therefore changed the analysis of the concept of civil society. In addition, it profoundly impacts the life of individuals, permitting spatial and social mobility along with reconstruction of collective identity and memory. This series welcomes book proposals that look at the political and social aspects of human activities in the broadest terms but analysed from the perspective of how these processes are transformed as a result of European integration. The series is open to work emerging from research cooperation between Polish and foreign scholars. Authors are welcome to submit manuscripts of monographs, collected volumes, and post-conference volumes. Outstanding dissertations will also be considered for publication.

The Series «　Borders and European Integration　» fills in a gap in Social Sciences, as it connects two so far independent research strands: European Studies and Border Studies. Mainly initiated by geographers and originally hosted in the United States, Border Studies primarily deal with the study of borders and borderlands, whereas European Studies analyse the process of European Integration, its actors, institutions and policy fields. Although the idea of a Europe without borders was part of the project of the European Economic Community, the multidimensional role of the border has not been sufficiently taken into account by researchers in European Studies. Inversely, Border Studies have only rarely examined the specificity of borders and borderlands in Europe in comparison to other regions in the world. At the crossroads between Area Studies and International Relations, this Series therefore offers a pluri-disciplinary approach to borders and their role in the European construction. Taking into account the perspective of different disciplines in Social Sciences, the diversity of actors of European Integration and borderlands (local, regional, national,) it allows a new multi-level and decentred view on conflicts and cooperation at European borders. The Series addresses researchers and university scholars of all disciplines in Social Sciences and wishes to tackle the challenging contemporary questions on borders in Europe. La collection «　Frontières et intégration européenne　» répond au besoin de lier deux champs disciplinaires jusque-là peu connectés　: celui des études européennes et celui des Border Studies. Die im Wesentlichen von den Geographen angestossenen und ursprünglich in den USA angesiedelten Border Studies interessieren sich vor allem für die Erforschung von Grenzen und Grenzgebieten, bzw. Nachbarschaftsräumen, während die Europawissenschaften sich der Analyse des Europäischen Integrationsprozesses, dessen Akteure, Institutionen und Politikfelder widmen. Obwohl die Idee eines Europa ohne Grenzen auch Teil des Projektes der Europäischen Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft war, wurde die multidimensionale Rolle der Grenze nicht immer ausreichend von den Europawissenschaftlern berücksichtigt. Anderseits haben die Border Studies nur wenig die Spezifizität der Grenzen und Grenzräume Europas im Vergleich zu anderen Regionen in der Welt erforscht. Am Wegkreuz zwischen den Area Studies und den Internationalen Beziehungen bietet die Reihe daher einen pluri-disziplinaren Ansatz zu Grenzen und ihrer Rolle in der Europäischen Konstruktion. These "Studies" explore the periodical in its many forms, dating back to the beginning of printing. In addition to magazines and newspapers, we investigate broadsheets, folk calendars, almanacs, and other forms of the periodical. In this international and interdisciplinary series, local, regional, national and trans-European communication spaces and forms are also examined. The series considers historical developments (of a specific genre or an ensemble of several periodicals, etc.) and offers synchronous investigations into the media and communications of a given period. The "Studies" aim to contribute to the understanding of the emergence, establishment and diversification of the European print media reception and literary and media formats and techniques. Die „Studien" erforschen die vielfältigen Formen der periodisch publizierten Kommunikation seit Beginn des Buchdrucks. Neben Zeitschriften, Magazinen oder Zeitungen gehören hierzu auch ältere Formen wie Flugblätter, Volkskalender, Almanache etc. In der internationalen und interdisziplinären Reihe werden lokale, regionale, nationale oder transeuropäische Kommunikationsräume und -formen untersucht. Sie interessiert sich für historische Entwicklungen (einer spezifischen Gattung oder eines Ensembles mehrerer Periodika etc.) und bietet synchrone Untersuchungen zur medialen Kommunikation einer Epoche. Reconsidering the Cold War historiography’s focus on high politics, conflict and confrontation, this series encourages the development of new research that explores ties and similarities transcending the political divide in Europe. It also welcomes new approaches to the history of Central and East European societies under dictatorships: approaches which shed light on individual and collective agency and show high politics as only one of several factors of change. Research in contemporary history still often mentally maps Europe as divided into a West and an East. This overemphasizes barriers between people who often shared similar values and tastes, practices and technologies, between interrelated social phenomena or just neighboring regions. In a similar way, narratives of Central and Eastern Europe often tend to reflect a simplistic vision centered on the conflict between the “regime” and “society”. This overemphasizes the role of crude domination and hinders understanding of the reproduction, evolution and normalization of European communist regimes up to 1989. We seek contributions that employ approaches from history, especially those which integrate insights gained from neighboring disciplines, such as sociology, anthropology, political science, or cultural and gender studies. Studies in European Archaeology

This series will primarily focus on the publication of excavations which have occurred in Britain over the last twenty years, particularly those that have been developer-funded, which are of equal weight and significance as research excavations. This series is a broad-church archaeological series, primarily focussing on excavation reports of regionally or nationally significant sites (sometimes compiled with other sites sharing a common thread), but also a home for edited collections of academic papers, and individual academic theses. It is not limited to particular periods, as this is not the reality with many archaeological sites. The publication of «commercial» excavations is often inhibited for one reason or another. In some instances, this has primarily arisen through a lack of contact between commercial archaeologist and academic publishers. Local journals and regional publishers are often inundated with submission and are not able to accept new papers or have long waiting list. This series is unique, attractive in its flexibility and diversity, but also appealing in its mission and focus to bring to light nationally and internationally important excavations.

In the United States, the Common Core Standards, the C3 Frame-work for Social Studies Standards (NCSS), and the 10 themes of the National Curriculum Standards (NCS/NCSS) each pose challenges for teachers preparing to teach skills, content, and critical issues of American history. The problem for many middle and secondary teachers is that textbooks do not contain sufficient primary source documents and varied secondary literature linked to these stand-ards. The volumes in the Teaching Critical Themes in American His-tory fill this need by providing teachers with history content, peda-gogical strategies, and teaching resources. The series is organized around key problems/issues in American history so that teachers can select which critical topics upon which they might want to con-centrate. This publication series was established with the aim of spreading the leading achievements of Polish, Central and Eastern European musicologists active in various fields of musicology. These fields include music history and musical traditions, ethnomusicology and musical anthropology, as well as music sociology, aesthetics and philosophy. The series will feature different genres: monographic works, collections of essays, articles and dissertations by a single author, as well as collective works and scientific conference proceedings. The editorial team will be working not only with renowned scholars but also young post-doctoral authors. This series is an intersectional, interdisciplinary liberatory project that promotes justice, equity, and inclusion. Hip Hop Studies and Activism book series will connect with a broad range of disciplines such as feminism, globalization, economics, science, history, environmental studies, media studies, political science, sociology, religion, anthropology, philosophy, education, and cultural studies. Against apolitical scholarship, Hip Hop studies argues for an engaged critical praxis that promotes the listening and defending space and place for marginalized and silenced communities especially Communities of Color and Youth of Color. Hip hop activism is committed to social action, advocacy, and activism, while other book series are more rooted in theory and apolitical analysis. We will therefore, make a strong effort to publish People and Youth of Color.

Studies in the History of Healthcare provides an outlet for academic monographs (sole- or multi-authored) devoted to both the social and the intellectual dimensions of the history of medicine, with a special emphasis on public health, health care and health services. The focus of the series is on the nineteenth and/or twentieth centuries, and is international in scope. The series encourages investigations into public health including environmental health, preventive medicine, responses to lifestyle diseases, and maternal and child health. It also embraces studies of health policy, health systems and state medicine, including in colonial and postcolonial settings. While studies may focus on general medicine, they would also give appropriate weight to healthcare as it relates to sectors such as indigenous peoples, older people, mentally ill and/or other vulnerable social groups. Unless they are placed in a broad context and address significant historical questions the series does not include biographies or histories of individual institutions and organisations. The monographs included in this series reflect the cutting edge of research in the now well-established and still expanding field of medical history. Studies in the History of Healthcare is a successor to Studies in the History of Medicine, formerly edited by Charles Webster.
